Assuming for a moment, hypothetically of course, that the coup was indeed a genuine one intended to overthrow Erdogan, it was a horrendously-planned one.
It was merely soldiers attacking things, holding locations and engaging in firefights in the street. It was as if like none of them had even heard of Sun Tzu. At the very least they should have
- linked up with a significant portion of the Presidential staff as well as the main body of the police force and other emergency services
- conspired with external enemies and arranged for them to invade just as the coup was getting underway
If they had long-terms prospects in mind then they should have also recruited intelligence agents for the propaganda warfare as well as collaborating with the country's most influential economic powers in order to stall any and all potential financial support for Erdogan.
Maybe then they wouldn't have simply been able to remove him but instead mount a full-blown revolution to completely overthrow the government.
