Having been to both Germany and Poland, I'd say you definitely need to check Poland out.
Cheapest way: take a Flixbus to Berlin, then take a PolskiBus to Poznan (about 3 hours). Szczecin is about an hour closer to Berlin, but I think most guys will prefer Poznan. That being said, as I understand, certain Berlin public transit passes are also valid in Szczecin.
Make sure you come when university is in session though.
