The popular politics of today, whatever you want to call them, all have one thing in common: pathological altruism.
Socialism provides social status. That's the prime motivator for these Bateman-esque types who write for the WaPo and surrogate children of a different ethnicity.
The WaPo staff are socialists, it ups their status. It shows they care about the less fortunate. If you're not socialist you don't care about other humans and must have something wrong with you.
This couple are Socialists. They care about other humans so much they gave the under-privileged a chance in life. We are less worthy than them because we haven't done as much as they have to help the less fortunate.
No one is concerned with reality anymore, they just want to be the best Socialist.
