This might deserve its own thread. In my whole lifetime of traveling, I very, very rarely have gotten the bang the first day. The only time I remember doing so was the first day I ever set foot in California. There have to have been other times. Definitely day two and day three. What I now do is add two days to every trip and spend the first two days just resting and getting to know the city. This is especially good if a city is completely new to me or if I haven't been there for a while (two months ago, I went to Santo Domingo for the first time since 2009).
