It's impossible for someone to study and compare the source materials of Christianity and Islam (Bible, Koran, Hadith, etc.), and still believe that they're "equally" devoid of truth and reality. Even the most secular atheists (Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, etc.) admit that Christianity, at it's core, is a benign religion.
In terms of extremist elements within Christianity vs. Islam, it's a discussion that shouldn't even be taking place to begin with, as statistics on the probability of attacks, frequency of attacks, cited motivation for attacks, damage inflicted, etc. are so overwhelmingly lopsided against Islam.
A dispassionate review of the evidence leads to a conclusion at direct odds with egalitarian beliefs, so media and government will lie, justify false equivalency, and distort facts to keep the peace.
