Jefe.
That's what I'm saying. If I'm going to be working in real estate why not go where the money is.
There's lots more money and land down there than up here in Boston.
Miami is first and foremost about who you know; what you know, what you think you know, or what you believe is somewhere between who gives a fuck and who gives less of a fuck.
I know a hell of a lot about that world that you say you want to get into it, and your comments make me believe that you're not really established in it yet.
Anything is possible, so I'm not going to say what one can or can't do, but you better dry up the wetness behind your ears before you come down here and get your feelings hurt.
A Cuban can get here from the island and have a job within a week, even if they're completely unqualified for a position, any position. Meanwhile, non-local UM grads get hated on by the local FIU grads who do the majority of the hiring and thus have a hard time getting work so they have to move back to where they're from to have a better shot at employment.
At the end of the day, Miami is a funny place, most people who move down here -- not counting those who come here to attend college -- are usually running away from something. Think about what it is that you really want, whether or not you have the goods to get it, and your plan for making relationships with mostly cold people who don't give a fuck about helping you get there -- damn near anywhere in Texas would make a lot more sense for pursuing real estate dreams than doing so in Miami .
If you're not Latin and you don't speak Spanish, you're already incredibly behind the 8-ball -- 90% of the jobs will prefer, if not outright demand, bilingual people, even if you're doing some shit like analysis where all you'll be doing is staring at a computer screen.
This is a Latin American city within the borders of the United States, for Latinos, by Latinos, and they don't give a damn how much you don't like it.
Aché pa' ti.
