Moving to Miami

I went down to MIA with my ex, so I didn't do much in terms of gaming. I did bang an 18yo from Philly a week after she left me and the word on the street (Wynwood, Edgewater & Midtown) was that I had a badass new old lady.

I had a lot of tough luck in MIA. Three months after I got down there I tore a nice sized chunk out of my right leg jumping over the fence of my apt. building because I forgot my keys, causing me to lose my job. After that I took a run at helping my doctor neighbor get his consulting business back off the ground, but he was is piss poor health and we weren't making money. I was meeting with doctors and lawyers by day, and squatting in an abandoned house on NE 25th St. by night.

Once my g/f left me, I obviously didn't want anything to do with women, so I spent most of my time walking my dog and hanging out with the gay couple who I became really good friends with. In fact, I'm saving up a little bit of money to go back down there for a few days because I owe them a lot. I wouldn't have made it as long as I did down there w/o them.

My experience was interesting to say the least. I learned what community meant down there, but I also learned what stye over substance meant as well. Overall, I'd say Miami is a great place to let your cock out (even though the only place it's going to get wet is the ocean), but I would never tell anyone to live there for an extended period of time.

I'm sure your experience living in midtown must be much diferent than my experience of living on the beach as well. I think if I had a car and lived off the beach I would have been able to enjoy miami a bit more. I feel like living on the beach (At least south beach) is like living on the strip if you live in Vegas. I'm just not into the tourist thing but yet I live in the middle where all the tourists are. It gets real old after a while. I can't wait to leave this place and get back to south america where I'll be able to focus more on what I want. Here I just work like a slave but I'm making killer money for my age. If I stayed living here and work like I do I'd have a house by the end of the year, but to me it's not worth it. I'd rather be happy with a moderate income than miserable with a high income.

Though I'm dissing a lot on Miami, I do appreciate some things I've taken from my move here, such as:

1) How to dress well

2) How to work hard and make money

3) It really challenged me as far as meeting new people and women

4) Moving here made me want to eat well and take better care of myself. It basically just helped me with all around self improvement. With so much competition it really just makes you want to be an all around better person.

I didn't live in Midtown proper, I lived in the poor areas surrounding (i.e. what they knocked down to build Midtown). You are right though, they are two totally different places despite only being separated by Biscayne Bay (about 4 miles for those not familiar).

Good to hear that you made some money. Miami kicked my ass when it came to that. I hated SoBe, I don't know how you could live there.

I mean I'm not making over $100k a year, but I'm doing good for my age. I'm making more than just about anyone I know I graduated highschool with, but I'm also working my ass off 72 hours a week. Both jobs pay pretty well for what I do. Both my jobs are on the beach and close to my house. Between that and not having a car it's the only reason I live on the beach. I've decided I'm just gonna go without a car since I'm gonna be out of here soon and it's not worth it to buy one now. I really don't like living on the beach though. Even doing simple things like going to the store or the bank can be a major pain in the ass some weeks. Getting to work as well, especially when they have those stupid ass races going on. It basically shuts down all traffic to south beach and at the same time I loose mad money because of it as well. When traffic is backed up in south beach it almost always costs me. I never thought traffic would effect me so much, but it can ruin my whole work day if traffic isn't moving.

I regret having read through this whole thread [Image: confused.gif]

Its like you were all loving Miami and enjoying yourself, and then every post seemed to get more pessimistic.

I have the opportunity to work from home so I basically have free reign on moving anywhere in the country. I severed my lease here in DC so its basically tick tick tick until I either choose to move somewhere or stay around here.

I'm looking at moving into the Flamingo. There are two grocery stores in walking distance, and the beach is a short walk or jog away. Working from home allows for a certain lifestyle where I just want to be content where I am, not need a car, and be able to thrive in my surroundings.

I'm hoping I can meet people at the complex, because the amenities are so nice (two huge pools, sand vball courts, etc.). It has both apartments and condos.

I'm really kinda just throwing myself out there so I'm a bit nervous. Not nearly as ballsy as you however, since I already have a great gig locked up. I'm not huge into clubs either but I'm willing to work to change it. I also noticed that their are some solid bars/lounges very close to that location such as Purdy Lounge, Abbey Brew Co, and the Foxhole.

I mentioned getting laid in Miami in another thread but if I recall correctly it was actually Ft. Laud each time (which as an outsider i consider it "miami").

In any event, if I don't like it I'll be able to take off after a year when the lease is up.

Maybe somebody can chime in with something positive?

Um dude, I've lived down here for 2 years. I love it down here.

It's time to pull the trigger buddy, jeez Miami compared to DC, shouldn't even be a question.

Plus you mentioned you pull in $120K a year, you might as well buy a nice car while your down here too. And if you miss home, you clearly have the funds to take weekend trips back to DC.

As Tariq Nasheed said...

As much as I rag on Miami it's still way better than living in DC or just about any other city in the US. Before you sign a lease you should do some exploring to find an area you like. When I moved here I was thinking St Pete or Clearwater beach. I just stayed in motels in different areas and kept gravitating to where I live now about 7 miles north. I also mentioned many times your experience here will be alot different if you like and spend time on the water. It's fucking hot. Get in the water.

Tip: If you have health ins don't tell them you moved here. Let the bill go to a family member where you are now or friend.

Cool... yeah, I don't have to walk around wearing business clothes in the heat like many other people. That shit sucked in DC summers as well but I'm sure its much worse. I love the water, whether it be a nice pool or the ocean.

As for jumping around a lot, I actually have a fair amount of decent furniture. Its kinda annoying actually, it was nice when I could move around (just in DC) with hardly any worry. If it was shitty furniture I'd just sell it. I was also hoping on eventually getting into a condo, another reason I was looking at south Florida instead of dreadful DC real estate.

Yeah I need to stop worrying and just live it. The place I'm getting is the same as a place in DC (1br) however I'll not be paying State Income Tax! That extra 500 bucks or so a month for free is great.

You know I live in Fl, if I were to move from where I live Sarasota would be the place. I would give it a look. Put the furniture in storage and freewheel around the state for a week or so. I bet you won't choose Miami. On the East coast I would pick Stuart. From there your dating pool is from Palm beach to Ft Pierce(major sluts)

Wherever you go get a flats skiff to fuck around on.

This is good advice. I'll definitely do this before settling down with a condo. So I've gathered from other posts the Sarasota is like Miami in the good respects, beautiful beaches and people, while its better in other respects such as friendliness? What makes Sarasota even better than Tampa?

I'm in my late 20s if that makes any difference.

Haha... I also did a search on POF.com for 33139. That always makes me feel better!

Sarasota is cleaner and more upscale and very friendly. Parts of Tampa look like Santo Domingo. It's always better to live closer to the beaches but not on the beach. Tampa has a bay not a sparkling beach. They come to Clearwater or St. Pete. Sarasota is a quick ride from Tampa on a wide smooth highway you could go whenever you want. I'm talking home base here. Nice clean, safe, hot girls with teeth and not so many meth labs. In Tampa bay the gem is Dunedin if you wanted to do some research.

Also the tropic line runs across the skyway bridge so Tampa St pete is subtropics and
Sarasota is Tropical. Ya know, Bananas growing in your yard and shit.

I think you will do ok down there. I have my own business, there is an office but I generally work from home/hotel, and I feel a lot more in place in Miami Beach than other cities.

I took a couple of trips down there this winter, and might make the move next.

Heading to Miami in a couple of weeks to investigate. Might stay a week or two to job hunt and look for a cool place to live. Not interested in South Beach. Still want good logistics, but not on a baller's budget. I speak Spanish and have a decent education. If anyone cares to chip in or PM, I could use some advice.

Moving to Miami

Well, I'm moving back to Miami again in October. This time I'll have wheels, so I can explore a lot more. My question though is:

Where are some good spots to meet genuine South American (Brazil, Argentia, Colombiam) /Caribbean (Cuban and DR) girls. I'm not talking ones who's were born in Miami and have South American parents, I mean girls who grew up in Latin America and moved to Miami who have not been too poisoned by American culture yet.

I'm talking anywhere too, not just night clubs. For example if there's a densely populated area of Colombians, and a good spot to day game them. I am kind of looking for stuff more off the beaten path. I know that at LIV or Mokkai, I'm not gonna find many genuine South American girls (or even maybe so, but they are usually heavily Americanized).

I wasn't able to explore as much as I wanted to when I first moved there, but I have been to and heard of some place.

The Brazilian place I've read about on here is a restaurant called boteco. Supposedly they have a pretty good lady's night if I remember correctly. I never checked it out as it was a little far from where I lived.

I've been to a Dominican spot with a Dominican buddy of mine, I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. It was kind of ghetto, in some crapy generic hotel. It didn't seem to be unsafe though. Most of the people in there you could tell still had very deep Dominican roots. Lots of cute girls and good music and dancing. I'm going to try and figure out the name of it. It's not a high class joint by any means, but that's not necissarily what I'm looking for. From what I recall the bottles are cheap too.

Boulevard is another spot my Dominican friend used to go to. I never went with him, but from what I hear it's pretty ghetto. Another buddy of ours, who actually looks very Dominican, but he's black/white mixed American, said he got a gun pulled in him there. Our Dominican friend confirmed that things can get sketchy there, but assured me that if I went with him nothing would happen to me. I need to link back up with him. I haven't talked to him in two years, but I know he could point me in the right direction. He's also has awesome game. He's a pretty boy, all the girls love him.

Another spot I checked out was La Covacha. Here is a mix, many American born and many foreign born. Most things are written in Spanish. It's not as genuine as the Dominican place I went to where nearly everyone was Dominican, but it's was a nice change from the south beach hustle.

Also, where are some good spots to salsa or bachata. Or places that play reggaeton or dimbow.

Lately, I've been seeing more of these types of girls at little restaurants when I go with my coworkers for lunch. So you might find a Colombian place, or a shitty little "Latin Café" or something and check it out. It's mostly women working in these places and most of them barely speak any ingles. Especially if you go out towards the west part of Miami near the airport, like Miami Springs, Doral, etc. But that area is pretty miserable and I try to stay away.

I feel like the nightlife in Miami has gotten more disproportionately male in the past year or so (probably the entire U.S. is going this way because women are staying in with their phones and Netflix), so it's probably not even worth going to typical bars or clubs anymore unless you know of a specific time/place where there's a decent amount of pussy.

Also, believe it or not, the strip clubs in Miami have tons of girls who are recent immigrants from Cuba, Colombia, Argentina... even Russia occasionally. Granted, these girls are basically prostitutes, so if you're looking for a wifey or serious girlfriend you can rule that out, but it doesn't hurt to look.

Nice advice. Women who hardly speak English are exactly what I'm looking for. I remember there was one working at Los Perros on Alton that was a smoke show. Hardly spoke any English, from venezuela.

Shit, you think going out in Miami is bad, where I'm at now the club is packed with 40-70% of people I know, depending on the night. The best looking girl in the bar some nights is a 6. It's super small so if you blow it or do a girl wrong, forget getting with any of her friends. The guy to girl ratio can at times be 10 to 1 or worse. There are really only a few places to go as well that are "worth your time" but really if these places were in Miami, you'd never go. Hell, they probably wouldn't stay open.

Yeah, I love Sarasota. Spent a week on siesta key a few months ago and it was perfect. The conveniences of a big city without the stress plus a lot of hot girls who are easily impressed. I was actually thinking about moving out there but it is a place where people get comfortable. My best friend left Sarasota to live in France a year ago because of that. All of his high school friends make good money, have nice apartments but are ultimately boring in my opinion and extremely comfortable.

All of the hottest girls (including 2 playmates) I met during college were from stuart. I was thinking of going for a day trip this week because I have a ton of friends who I can crash with.

That being said though. I would want to live no where other than miami. I'm biased because I'm from south florida. But it's really my niche. The music, the art, the parties, the girls, the charecters. It is really hard to live her but there is so much to do.

You could probably go to a new unique area and find something new to do every weekend for an entire year without running out of places. 22 years and I still find myself, in new restaurants, clubs, warehouses, galleries, pools, mansions. Maybe it's just my niche and its the only place I can really fit in without being seen as pretentious (with the exception of NY) but its if one values how international a city is Miami is great. I meet so many people with so many different expertise everyday. On sunday I learned a ton about french art house films from a parisian couple visiting, then met a turkish programmer who talked about told me about an algorithim he'd been working on, and then ended up with drinks with venezualan girls learning about chavez.

Also like OP said, Miami has forced me to dress better, be more interesting, and always keep working harder. I think that's what it comes down too, you are never comfortable in miami. There's always more money to be made, style that can be improved, more cultures/food to learn about, and healthier/fitter life choices. If one's okay with feeling comfortable, Miami is not the place.

Also, I should note, I live in the suburbs with my parents so that may be why I like it so much. Although I live in broward I can't stand ft lauderdale becuase it's the same American Girls who I left the south to get away from. I plan on getting an apartment midtown after I travel for a few years but for now im saving and living in my childhood bedroom. Im about 35 minutes away from anything cool, so maybe the fact that I dont have to deal with any city stress daily feeds into my opinion.

I would never want to live on south beach also, its just too tacky and touristy. Sunny Isles is where it's at if you want the beach.

Does Sarasota have a lot of Latinas? A buddy of mine that I work with grew up there. I never paid much attention to it though.

The reason I like Miami though is it's an international city. I go crazy surrounded by only Americans. I need lots of food, club, bar, and culture options. Nice weather and the beach as well. Definitely hot Latina girls. Miami fits all those categories.

InternationPlayboy:
Good post. The Dominican place you went to may have been Club Tipico Dominicano. A high percentage of the music there is merengue and bachata. Sunday is the best night there. If the place you went to wasn't El Tipico, I bet it was "Bully" or one of the places that Jariel posted about. Boteco is a good choice, especially on Tuesdays. To answer your question about good salsa or bachata spots, Miami DJ's are in general god awful as far as latin music goes. Much worse than in New Jersey, New York, Baltimore, and I think any Latin American country. I stopped going to Miami from about 2007 to 2010 mostly for that reason. They will play one salsa song, one reggaeton song, one Spanish rock song, one punta song, and so on. If you mostly dance salsa and merengue, that kind of song selection will screw you. The best place for salsa in Miami was always Cafe Mystique by the Miami airport. That place closed a couple of years ago, but I believe it opened back up in Doral. I've posted here trying to information on the new Mystique, but I don't think anybody responded. Other than Mystique, Bongos plays a lot of salsa, but as can be expected, they try to mixx in way too many other kinds of music. Moca Lounge has a salsa/bachata night on Thursdays. If you go there, be sure to report back.

Nice info merenguero. It may have been tipico. It's way the hell out there, I think by Miami lakes. It definitely wasn't bully. That's actually the one Boulevard that I was talking about, but they call it "bully" for short.

I've been to Bully's, definitely filled with poorer girls, mostly Dominicans and Cubans, with some outliers. It's actually pretty click-ish there, but if you have good dance game, it may be worth a shot. That place was just too rachet for my taste.

I went too club tipico, very ethnic latin bar/club and it was tough since there were mostly social groups and seated sets.

There is a place called The batting cage, by the marlins stadium, which is a club. I've never been when it was packed, but it may be a good option as it draws the same type of crowd.

Sounds like this is a trend all over the US, but Miami bars are really turning into huge cockfests. I really don't mind because most of the guys at the venues can't approach to save their lives.
