Street Fighter II

When I was a kid I kind of considered Ken and Ryu to be boring, even though they were still cool.

I liked Guile a lot. I thought he was like a suped up version of Ken and Ryu.

Now looking back, I like that the Ken and Ryu characters were traditional martial artists that didn't use gimmickery to beat opponents.

Even their powers are extensions of harnessing your Chi which is a legendary martial arts concept.

What a cool time in our lives to be a teen and look forward to going to an arcade to see who had the strongest Kung Fu.

I would raid my dad's change jar and walk 2 miles to play that game.

.

I think they were probably the most balanced characters. It was easy to hand an aggressive opponent his ass on a silver platter when you understood how to counter with those two guys and avoid the traps a lot of newbies fall into. You could also play offense with their projectiles to keep an opponent off your ass and force him to make a mistake coming at you.

Akuma was a game changer because he was like Ryu or Ken but with the ability to throw projectiles in mid-air or teleport around to avoid hits. It's so easy to kick ass with him.

Yeah, eating mushrooms or stars to get stronger, riding turtles and dinosaurs around. Busting your ass and risking death to save a princess. Fuck that, I'll take straight up combat.

That one was cool. A little too chaotic for me.

I think it's important that these games just feel real- like the backgrounds could be interacting with foregrounds and that the movments of one character are actually influencing the other.

I hate all these new video games that are from the first person perspective or virtua fighter. I'd rather have that side scrolling like a book or something gives you a higher perspective.

I liked SuperSmashBros.

DK's "Giant Punch" was the high watermark for alpha back in 1999.

I played with Chun Li of course.
and I hated when one of my friends played with Sagat. He won it all.

SF 2, the good times of spending whole afternoons in the arcades. it is when you remember the good old times that you began to became old, right?

I also loved other arcade games, like the wonder boy, ghouls&ghosts, etc. I also miss playing with my Sega Megadrive (Super nintendo was to expensive, only the rich posh boys had it).

Yeah, Zangief was high risk/high reward.. hard to maneuver but that super pile driver fucked shit up more than anything. One of the hardest moves to learn - basically just moving the stick in a circular motion with a hitch real fast

My favorite character was probably Vega.. super quick and vicious, but of course on the standard game you couldn't choose him

Really? It was pretty much 50/50 over here. I thought it must be some obscure tarrif laws you guys had/have with Japan, but both those companies are Japanese. Weird!

It was pretty even where I grew up too, if anything more Nintendos. I had the Genesis and got the "32x" add-on later (which I thought I was so bad ass for having [Image: lol.gif]). The six-button controller for the Sega was sick too.
