The apartment cost is significant but I'm finding it easy to cut costs elsewhere. Eating two small meals each day cooked at home plus a good plate at Delirio Tropical means I can get away spending $20 on food. I try to keep the drinking cost down, and from what I've seen dates can be really simple.
Date 1: chopp or coconut water at a beach kiosk.
Date 2: sunset at Aporador
Date 3: cooking dinner at my place. My apartment has a real panty dropper in it too.
Now I'm not saying I'm killing it here, but this exact routine has worked twice in 11 days here with quality girls.
One thing I've noticed is that the girls I'm going on dates with are looking for something different. They don't want the super aggressive macho Brazilian guy. These dates allow me to make them feel a bit different than they have with aggressive Brazilian guys.
You can do all of this without going to clubs or exclusive restaurants. It really allows a normal guy to date up if he knows what he's doing.
For this upcoming portion of my trip, I'll be spending much more time at bars and clubs, so maybe my perception will change.

Delirio Tropical is the shit, I pretty much ate there every single day I stayed at The Mango Tree Hostel in Ipanema, as far as I know it's one of the only places serving mostly "natural and organic" food in Rio, the food is tasty, wide selection, and very reasonably priced (mostly by weight). I eat two massive meals a day, but I think a huge well rounded meal for lunch or dinner was running me about $10 a pop, not bad considering I spend about $15-20 per meal on average here in CA.
Also I don't understand the obsession with trying to go for the top 5% of hot rich girls in Rio, and then acting like anything else is complete trash. Now I'm not knocking having high standards and striving for top tier quality, but I don't think picking up a middle class 8 at Rio Scenarium, is that much worse than picking up a rich girl 9 at Baronetti.

MaleDefined, i read yesterday about the riot, and i remember your post. Good luck experiencing these kind of things. Most people from the USA and parts of Europe, when exposed to things like that, are amazed. Its something too alien to them.

The coconut is great value for money. You drink the water and eat the inside for breakfast.
Maledefined - How many different girls have you been on dates with so far? Can you have mini dates throughout the day? It seems like you are spending a lot of time with these girls (which is great if that's what you want).

I've been on what you'd call 'dates' with 5 of them. But they're so super informal, and yes, mini dates are pretty much the standard. I have been spending a lot of time with these girls, probably because it's so refreshing when compared to American women. It's awesome to spend time with a cute girl watching the sunset and actually have a conversation.
A couple of my boys came into town, so it'll probably be a steady diet of beach game followed by night game the next week or so.
Hit up Lapa both nights this weekend. Wanted to hit up a favela party in Vidigal last night, but with my boys spending their first night in Rio, they looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested this. Did 40 Graus last night in Lapa and it was a blast. I'd say it's a pretty good bet to pick up girls who would be receptive to gringos. Me and my boys all did well there last night.
Went to Maracana tonight for football. Amazing atmosphere considering it was a local derby match. The place was electric and I'd never seen anything like it at a sporting event.
Rio is like an onion, the more I pull it back, the more interesting things I start to find. Like any society, there are problems and black eyes, but there are a lot of things I genuinely love about this place. I really could see myself coming back here for an extended time or even living here.

This is a very refreshing thread to read after hearing all the negative publicity (Brasil's decline) about Rio and Brasil on this forum. Keep it up!

While I can't tell you if it's a place in decline since I've never been there before, I can tell you that the women are miles ahead of American girls. Things I've said and done, as I think I've leaked out over the course of this thread that would get me harshly rejected for poor game or slapped for aggressiveness in America have been accepted here.
At the conclusion of this I think I will throw up a comparison sheet between my experiences in SEA, EE and Brazil, as I've spent periods of time in all three places in the past two years, and these seem to be the most hotly debated foreign destinations.

@Maledefined Stupid question, but how is the weather?
The older I get, the more I care about weather. Certain places in the world are just too damn hot for me to consider moving to...

Consider that a blessing. My first trip to Brazil was Dec 2011 as the days of the "real poosy paradise" apparently eluded me. The fact that I was never spoiled by that era makes me more compatible towards the current & future challenges of spending time in that country.
First time I was in Brasil was during the cruzado novo era. Then it was the cruzeiro. Yearly inflation was about 1000%. There was at this era something wonderful that was the Varig Air Pass, which allowed you to take Varig flights within Brasil as often as you want during one month. You could have breakfast in Belem, lunch in Sao Luis, and depending on your mood, catch a flight to Fortaleza or Salvador or wherever, or simply go back to Belem (which has always been my base in Brasil). That was fun. But I digress.

Was on the Flu side, unfortunately.
I've been sick and running at 50% the past four or five days. It's really killed a lot of my momentum. I'm trying to push through but I'm doing everything half assed. I might just take a day or two to rest for the weekend.
How do you guys handle the whole getting sick while traveling? I'm beginning to think I should've just taken the day or two completely off when it first came on, rather than suffer through it.

Haven't posted as much because the weather has been awful here. A guy was telling me, the past three days are as bad as Rio has been in years. High 50's and steady rain.
Also, I've been miserably sick the past 5-6 days. Came down with a nasty cold and I decided to pop my emergency antibiotics to get myself going again as quick as possible. I've never been one for antibiotics, since my body doesn't react well, but I didn't want to deal with a bunch of days laid up. My body reacted horribly to the antibiotics of course, and it cost me another day or two with debilitating stomach pains even though I cured the original cold. The antibiotics killed every last bacteria, good or bad in my stomach and it left me with the equivalent of battery acid floating around down there.
Nonetheless, a couple of friends came to visit and hit Rio pretty good the past couple days despite my health issues and the pictures they brought back from their night out indicate they've got some pretty good stuff lined up for me the next few nights. Might also meet up with a couple of RVF members this weekend as well.

Thread died for a few days because, well, I pretty much died for a few days. Note to self and fellow travelers in the future: When feeling sick, take a couple of days off and get back to 100%.
After 10 days of various ailments that left me bedridden for days, I'm finally back to normal. Going to try and close out Rio strong.
Will give a more thorough writeup on my thoughts of this place at the close of the week.
Focus from here on will be with girls I've already met/banged. I'll get out a bit at night, but I gotta get my fitness and health completely in order, as after I leave Rio next week I'm going to fall off the radar for a few weeks in Peru.
Trekking Macchu Picchu and camping in the Amazon have always been dreams of mine, and I'll need every ounce of strength and fitness I've got for this portion of my SA trip.

They showed some pictures of Rio on television with the Pope, and it looks insanely packed...

I'm not in Copacabana, so I could avoid it if I wanted to, but I can confirm that Rio was an absolute madhouse the past 10 days with the Pope's visit. If there was anything that affirmed
my belief that religion is a sheepish cult, this was it. The one day I didn't feel like shit, I actually went down to Copa to check it out and got closer to the Pope than I'd say 99% of the people there did.
I'll give a more thorough write up on why the Pope's visit was a huge game killer when I collect and spell out my thoughts.

Really? There were a lot of "Pope Bunnies" all over the place, and i know by experience that religious chicks are usually slutier when abroad.
