Chatted with a guy in my Jeep club who went to military surplus auctions and actually bought an HMMV and said it was road-legal, not sure how he did that. That's the only one of those I'd want to own anyway since they've got diesel engines, but really poor mileage and lacking a lot of features. HMMVs also don't use a key ignition so you'd want to modify that or it might disappear.

Hmmvs look good but they are slow.

If i had one id swap in a moderately modify cummings engine (hold the rolling coal mods) ,upgrade the a/c and some interior touches and call it a day.

The one to buy would be the civilian-version (H1's) - they have all the bells and whistles and utility of the HMMV but with civilian comfort and sensibilities. Also a lot of the later year H1's have diesel engines. The best one by far is the last model year, the 2006 H1 Alpha - has the 6.6L Duramax and the 5-speed Allison transmission.

The HMMV's and the older H1's mostly came standard with just 5.7L Chevy engines and were dog slow with like 200 HP. The HMMV's sold to civilians have turn signals and all the things needed to make them road legal (.50 cal turrets removed sadly haha).

If I were to own one I'd definitely prefer to get my hands on a later-model H1, or buy and oldie and clone it to be like the later models. You can get late 80's/early 90's ones for like $15k.

The H1s look good but are so big they are impractical.

A friend has a H3. He bought it used. He likes it but says he had to sink $4500 to rebuild the engine and other repairs shortly after buying it.

I really wish the h3 wasn’t the last vehicle hummer went out with .think they shared that giant 4 cylinder (or was it a 6?) with the trailblazer.

Id be curious to what they’d release today for a modern version of the h1.

Well we have the jeep gladiator so eh.

They came with the inline 5, the same engine they put in the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. H3's were gay, but H2's were gayer...

Trust me i did the research on these.timing chain has to be changed every 100,000miles .i dont mind doing that myself since i used to wrench alot a few years. Other than that the engines (m88/m90) are alright.

Suspension id just get some fancy coilovers and call it a day.

Is that a niva with leather seats ?
What the hell .. ?

Anyway, it's not sold here anymore, because of the CO2 taxes.
IIRC new price was 15 grand, CO2 tax was an additional 10, that killed it completely.

I think the jimny is also out this year for the same reason.

I get my new car, a Mercedes C 220D. It's the AMG version by the looks, its a Diesel with 194 PS. All kind of electronic gadgets, driving assistant systems, digital display. The manual is thick like a science book.

It is cheap vinyl that cracks at first sign of frost.

I was offered one a while back for 2k, fully serviced but declined due to lack of space and I have no desire to drive in Belarus at the moment. A neighbour of mine was also selling his 1977 Volga Gaz-24 with a V8 engine. It was fully serviced and in great nick. It was a taxi back in the day. To give you an idea what it looks like, this is a similar looking car of what was on offer.

Batka, you know full well that any self respecting communist dictator or their lackey propagandists such as yourself would not be caught dead in anything less than Chaika.
Or maybe they would?

An uncle of mine had a niva, with an LPG kit installed, I loved this car.
He kept it many years, eventually he grew tired of having to fix it all the time [Image: smile.gif]

But the fixing was always easy and cheap - now he drives a prado, it almost never breaks down but when it does you could usually buy a couple of nivas for the money the garage wants for the fix.
