Emechs balls hot summer style thread

Many of us are traveling to blistering hot places and or live in them. This thread is about exchanging styles for hot humid climates only. Not thick cotton shorts with blazers or suits. I'm talking 90+ degrees and 90% humidity.

It's 85 degrees in my office as I type this and I predict a hot summer here and in the rest of the country.

What do or would you wear?

Yeah, one thing I dread about moving back to Florida this summer, the fucking, disgusting, somebody please kill my ass heat.

My only ideas thus far have been buying some shorts, t shirts, lots of sunscreen and a nice UV hat.

I think I will purchase this before I head down there. It is a bit pricey though. Couldn't I get the same coverage with just a simple hat from Wal-Mart? I think all the UV protection advertisement and cool imagery jacks the price up on the hat.

Here's a site that has some flats fishing specific stuff. We wear visors here on the water. Regular hats are too hot

CS please tell me you're not planning on wearing a hat like that here..

Last summer was one of the hottest ever in DFW history with 40 days in a row of 100+ degree weather. I spent most of my time wearing shorts or swimming trunks with a tank top or fitted t-shirt.

Linen suit and panama hat.

You can even get them with an open weave crown:

After G's recommendation I did a bit of looking around for the best Panama hat's, which are from Montecristi, Ecuador by the way, and this guy seems to provide the very best:

Brent Black, The Panama Hat Company of the Pacific.

If it's really hot, forget the tie. Pocket square, panama hat, some aviators and you'd have to try really hard to fuck up this look. Good luck.

Suit huh? I don't think so. You will melt and be drenched with sweat in 5 minutes here in the summer.

Hows something like this?

I thought that hat looked pretty slick, then I clicked the link and found it costs more than two of my carpayments. Im a sad panda.

Don't worry Chad, I've got you covered. Brent Black Panama hats are the very best and sell from $500 up to $25000. The really high end hats take weavers months to weave, are a true and dying art without our support, and can be over 1600 weaves per inch. Imagine that.

You can read up here:

Best of the Best: How Fine Are the Finest?

If you want to spend a lot less but still have something nice for around $200 (or less), which is what I'll do for my first Panama hat, I plan on ordering from:

Panama Hats Direct.

After Brent Black, the site is painful, but they seem to have a lot of nice testimonials. I just got a promotional link to their overstock deals sent to me, where you can see here and save an additional 30% - 50% or so:

Heh, heh, I like the look. Makes me think I am in one of those Spaghetti Westerns Tarentino likes so much. I can make work, even though I'd be standing out more than a black guy at a Southern Tea party rally.

I am feeling the Panama hat more though. I will probably cop that.

Edit: Uh, fuck that. The shit is 500 bucks? They must have lost their God Damn mind.

The straw is hand picked and heated with sulfur to prepare it. It is then separated by hand. It can take a single weaver months to hand weave the finest hats. Then another weaver weaves the fibers inward, then it must blocked and shaped, shipped, and sold by a merchant for profit. $500 for several weeks to several months of an artists time is cheap. Plus, we need to support the art so the next generation takes it up. What do guys pay for a nice watch? A nice panama hat is a handmade piece of art, and I'll give G the credit here - its definitely the ultimate in style as far as men's hats go.

I posted a link above where you can get a lesser grade Montecristi panama hat for cheaper.

It depends on the climate and venue, but if it's hot and I am outside then hell yes I'd sport a nice Panama fedora.

I have been to Tampa/Clearwater in June. You could feel the humidity before you left the plane.

That looks like what people wear in Colorado. I have seen enough chicks (and dudes) dress in androgynous Colombia gear to last two lifetimes. I'd rather go naked.

Emech, I liked the short sleeve polo shirt you posted better. Some simple beige shorts if you are avoiding pants, canvas boat shoes, nice shades and a fun vibe would work.

Fine but some of that shit you can dive in the water and be dry in minutes and some of the shirts have some slick vents that keep you cool.

I will take you to the tikibars when you come here. A suit and Panama hat is not going to work. June isn't even that hot.

I started this thread hoping there would be some alternatives

I can deal with this stuff as well

Tikibars sound great eMech. I bet Mixx has some solid advice for you - we know what G will say.

I can slowly feel the heat creeping up. I usually just wear plain t shirts, shorts, baggy jeans and wife beaters. I can't mess with anything else when I'm drenched in sweat after 20 seconds in the sun. How the hell do you dress GQ in 110+ weather?
