Anyone here has experience in Belgium?

I would like to know info on the following:

-interesting cities besides Brussels

-French classes

-Belgian women (looks-wise and personality)

-Local feelings towards educated foreigners

-cost of living and work (For EU citizens)

I'm interested in the country , I'm wondering if it is a good alternative to France if I decide to study in Europe later this year.

No first hand experience, but I have heard that Belgium is pretty awful. Brussels is the home of the EU so I imagine it will be a lot like the much hated DC.

According to this Belgium has the highest marginal tax rates in the world.



It is a great central location geographically though.

Belgium is a pretty cool place.

Interesting cities:
- Leuven (university town)
- Gent, Antwerp (second tier Dutch speaking)
- Brugge (tourist town, canals)
- Liege (second tier French speaking)

Brussels is only a short distance from Paris by bullet train. A weekend away to get your big city fix is well within reach.

As a foreigner, you should be happy in Belgium. I found the people really welcoming.

The people are nice, but there's nothing to do and the women are not very hot.

This is probably not worth that much, as I have never been to Belgium, but I was watching an episode of House Hunters International out of boredom one day and there were two featured cities: Paris and Antwerp. I have to say I didn't see but one or two smiles in the entire episode in Paris. Maybe that doesn't mean anything, as I have a feeling Paris is dope. Antwerp, however, seemed pretty laid back. A lot of people drinking beer and smiling in the show, with a lot of chocolate shops. Antwerp looked like a nice place to chill out. I don't have any interest in living there, but it's probably worth a stop over there at the very least.

If you are interested in seeing some more of Belgium, Colin Farrel shot a movie that is set entirely in Belgium, called "In Bruges."

Belgium's location is logistically favorable. Easy access to Paris and Amsterdam (two cities with great looking females).

Not much going on in Belgium. Low-key country. Brussels has work opportunities related to government (EU headquarters is there).

For nightlife, I love Antwerp. It's less than 2 hours from Amsterdam. I always recommend friends visiting that area to party there over Amsterdam if they are going to spend some time in that city. Amsterdam's nightlife is pretty weak. There's not much of a club scene, just mainly bars. Antwerp has clubs, great hip-hop and house music scene.

It's also a city famous for diamonds (and diamond heists).

On the subject of diamonds, this is one of the most entertaining things I've watched in regards to the illicit diamond trade, including the infamous Antwerp heist. The Lebanese cat who went out to Africa dolo for diamonds is a RVF honorary hall of famer. Enjoy.

Antwerp, Antwerp, Antwerp .

I'm born & raised in Belgium. Antwerp will be your best choice. It's a beautiful city (culture wise), but also offers a great nightlife, amazing cuisine and friendly people. The city is pretty small, so it's easy to get around.

Lots of beautiful woman in Antwerp, but make sure to be stylish yourself. Antwerp is one of the new fashion cities in the world, and most people tend to dress likewise. Most of the 8 & 9's will have a bitch-shield & will judge you on your looks & position in life (like in any first world country). A smooth talk will do a lot, as most Belgian man tend to use eye contact rather than a direct approach.

Woman have, generally speaking, still more 'old fashioned principles'; they still believe in long relationships, family,,... think it comes close to the woman in Poland, all be it a little bit more sophisticated (in the negative sense of the word).

Other option is Gent (student city). I personally don't like Leuven so much, as it's full of alternative students & only offers a beer drinking nightlife. Great if you are into that, but not my style.

French classes: easiest way is of course to live in the south part of Belgium, Wallonia, or Brussels. Nightlife is rather dull though, Walloons tend to be more farmer like, more small villages = village lifestyle. In any case, there are lots of French courses to be found everywhere as it's our second language.

Brussels offers a more international vibe. Some nice clubs & parties but you'll have to travel a little bit further to go from a to b.
Large expat community. I've spend some years between them, it great but you'll need to invest some time to get into the groups & closed 'members only' events.

Best time to go to Belgium is May - June & September. Everyone travels during sumer holidays (July - August).

Antwerp over Brussels....

....but unless you've got study or a job, if you're staying for any length of time you will die of boredom!

Summer if possible.

please don't forget to mention that there are 3 official languages in Belgium : dutch, french and german !!

Had a night out in Brussels recently for the first time. Flew in from London on a sudden whim on my own and loved it! Thought the city was amazing,the architecture in the centre was stunning,didn't expect that. I hit the clubs and bars in the night time and found that in the centre you are mostly meeting other foreigners. All the women I spoke to were American or from other European countries an were in town studying or working for the EU in some capacity. Fortunately the drunken British contingent mostly confine themselves to the Irish bar so you don't have to witness their chavy behaviour too much. Can't remember the names of the clubs or bars but there were some great places. Art deco wine bars,huge pubs serving every kind of beer, meat markets full of drunk German girls where I found it easy to approach women and kiss close them. It was a great night! Will definitely go back at some point.

Don't know about the other things the OP asked about but for night time fun it was a great city. Go!

I have a jump off in Belgium so most of my time spent there is fucking her. But when I get the chance to go out or walk around alone, I noticed that the hottest girls in Belgium are the foreigners. Like Germany, the local girls speak better English but are not as good looking as the Turkish or Russian or Morrocan girls. The lack of English makes it hard for me. Plus a lot of the girls are on the bigger side. If you're into that, you'll be in heaven.

Like HC said, the best thing about Belgium is its location. 2 hours on the Eurostar and you're in London, 2 hours on the road and you're in Cologne or Aachen. 2 hours north and you're in A-dam, or if you're really bold you can hop on the bullet train and head to Hamburg. It's prime location for a truly international player that speaks multiple languages.

On the whole, I very much doubt it is better than France, though. I would say French girls are probably up there amongst the most beautiful ones in the world.

French are better? depends what you like, I give the edge to Belgium because you can find a good mix of blondes and brunettes, compared to france where the overwhelming majority are brown haired girls.

Belgium has an interesting mix of tall blondes (dutch alike) and short brownhaired (french alike) girls, of course a lot are in between. Also the Belgian ones, specially from flemish part dont have that arrogant/stubborn attitude that all girls from latin speaking areas share.

I would pick any day of the week the look of belgian people (specially flemish) over the french one. Its no surprise that in europe its usually the rule that smaller countries have better looking averages than the bigger countries.

Just read the entire article reconstructing the Antwerp Heist and damn, it was brillant read. Too bad this Speedy guy broke down at the worst moment and this is what made the entire operation fall through at the very end. Brillant story tough which can be turned into an epic film. I want to go to Belgium to drink beer, eat waffles and visit the Royal Museum for Central Africa, that is all.

Leaving Brussels suburbs tomorrow, nice place, friendly people, other friendly foreigners, easy to start conversations because someone is always lost or looking for directions or looking for someone who speaks english because they suck at flemish or french. The key is to dress well though, people will look at you like a bum if you are dressed down.

Women in belgium are smoking hot! Generally well educated and wealthy, very attractive and under rated nation!

I live in Germany , like 2 hours away from Belgium, I like to visit the country and I´ve been to almost every city but Antwerpen (dont know why, I should go haha).. and I gotta say theres not tooo much night life going on... ok the times I went i went with mates from the university and focused on having a good time with them, so I was not particularly there to hook up with belgian girls.. I didnt do many approaches cuz I had zero game these days.. I´ve been going out in Brügge, which is a very touristy city.. for Americans it might be a nice place because it has "charming old Europe" looks to it , but I havent been impressed.. especially the nightlife is NOT worth a visit..
there are only some bars in the center (easy to walk) but only 2 of them were full of people and even this could not compare to nightlife in Germany, it was hilarious.. and most of the ppl there going out will be tourists anyway.. I have also been to Brüssel (Bruxelles) at night which at least had clubs.. but the one we went to was way too expensive, not full and all in all a strange, "new rich" atmosphere but great music.. some of the girls there were HOT, very sexy dressed, German girls should dress like this too but they dont^^ but not easy to game.. they were basically looking for some 60 yr old fat millonaires XD another club we went to was a Latin style pub which was quite crowded so this would be a good option but I dont remember the name..
but all in all I can say : compared to Germany for example Belgiums nightlife is almost non existant so dont go there for clubgame only

I worked in Belgium for several months. The quality of the women is quite low. The only thing they have going for them is that they dress slightly better than surrounding countries. Brussels is considered the DC of Europe and it merits that reputation. There is just NOTHING to do. Most people who come there for work make sure they get transferred out just as fast.

In my experience, I had some luck with expat girls who feel the same way. Most non-EU workers have a lot of international experience by the time they get to Brussels and complaining about how boring it is does establish a connection.

Or you could just take a short train ride north to Antwerp. It's a bit more cosmopolitan despite being only half the size of Brussels. You will see many foreign exchange students and people are generally a bit friendlier.

Either way, if French classes are a big reason for you to travel there, better go to Montreal. Never been there but Roosh and others on this forum seem to have nothing but praise for it.
