Hey Guys,
Hoping to get some advice regarding a nagging chest injury I've been dealing with over the past year. I've found a lot of great advice and techniques on here to deal with shoulder pain, but not so much with the chest/sternum/pectorals.
This occurred about a year ago. I was doing a lot of calisthenics at the time, pull ups/dips/levers, etc. After working out one day I laid on the floor and was stretching with my arms above my head - stretched a bit to far and my chest popped pretty loud, lost my breath and had sharp pain in the upper right area of my pectoral across to the sternum. After resting for a few weeks originally it became more of a dull pain. Can feel it just about any time I look over my right shoulder, or move my chin toward my shoulder. I feel a tightness in the chest when I sneeze that is related to it. Also since then when I do shoulder dislocations, my sternum will sometimes pop or click.
I've been able to work through the pain and taken that approach for a while now. I just have a little bit of a weaker chest and have to baby that side a bit.. But lately I think because of this injury causing my form to be off - its starting to fuck with my shoulder as well. I'm considering taking 5-6 weeks off of upper body exercise and talking to a doctor to see what they say.
I know the obvious advice is I should go see a doctor.. but I always feel silly going to a doctor for a nagging type injury like this. So if anyone has a similar experience I'd love to hear from you. Some things I don't know about..
What type of doctor would I want to talk to about this? I'm pretty sure it's not bone related. Probably a muscle or ligament/tendon.
If anyones dealt with a muscle injury in the chest - how long was the rest period and how did you get back into activity afterwards?
What types of exercises would be doable while keeping the chest inactive during a rest period? (Seems like the chest flexes on ALOT of movements - even when I run or do ab workouts I can get pain in that area)
Thanks,
