Sick of Asia - Need Advice!

Bros....

So I'm in Saigon, been here 6 months, really starting to question what I'm doing here (and subsequently what I'm doing with my life lol) Girls are ugly, difficult, food is shit, weather is rainy a lot, city is over-crowded, dirty, noisy... blah blah. People are friendly enough but who gives a fuck.

I teach about 10 hours per week which helps me "survive" but certainly not thrive. I hate teaching these kids now too! I was teaching adults for a while and that was fine but it dried up.

I'm trying to study trading, my reason for being in cheap SEA - sometimes it's going well, other times I wonder if I'll ever make it work.

I miss the order of Europe, whilst at the same time looking on in horror as it becomes seemingly ever more alien as hoards of migrants are allowed to roam in and destroy it.

Anyway - I was in Thailand for 1.5 years before, trying to make the same trading work (albeit very lazily that time) - I've used up my free passes there. I've lived in Hong Kong before too.

I think I'm just sick of Asia!

So my question is - any recommendations? I need somewhere cheap, with perhaps the option of teaching English but to be honest, I'd like to not do that anymore. If I can start trading consistently, I won't need it. And besides, there's always the possibility of teaching online if I needed to.

So I need somewhere with cheap rent, great internet, nice girls a bonus, good food a bonus.

Seaside town would be wonderful but I have to go where I can just work. I'm thinking Europe because the time of day is good for trading the US markets.

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks - Sandstorm.

There are options for you in Eastern Europe (Odessa, or even better, Varna...).

Also, there is obviously the possibility of relocating to South America, which would meet most of your criteria, while being, say, closer to your own culture (comparing with Asia).

But I'm a bit surprised that you disliked Saigon, describing it as "over-crowded": by Asian standards, the city is surprisingly livable and do not feel over-crowded. Most expats really like their time in Saigon.

Thanks for your honesty. This post should be required reading for young guys in the West who have a whopping two years of career experience and have worked themselves up with so much travel blog reading that they're ready to pull the plug and move to Asia with no plan or skills or money.

What is this trading you're talking about? Day trading??? So you have hundred of thousands of dollars in capital already? and advanced math skills? and developed an unshakable self enforced work ethic with that 10 hrs/week of snotty kids? Ok.

Why don't you try persuing a single path in a skill that's employable in a modern large economy and stick with that for 10 years. Maybe you'll find the satisfaction you're searching for.

Asia can be tough.

If you're not happy here, try South America or Eastern Europe.

Do note, however, that no place is perfect, the better places become more expensive (if they aren't already) and you can't run from yourself.

Teaching English rarely goes onto being a fulfilling career so glad your snapping out of it. That being said... unless you have significant capital saved up day trading seems like a risky move. Can't help you tehre.

Don't get into trading. It's a zero sum game and you are competing with math geniuses at hedge funds with unlimited resources to develop algorithms and black box systems. I come from a wall street family and all of my uncles quit trading after the dot com bubble because that's when it started becoming a game just for math genius phd engineer scientists. Start a business and take calculated risks - almost every investment I make within my business at the very least breaks even and some have over 1000% ROI (certain ads, etc).

What trading strategy are you trying to use and how much capital do you have to work with?

As a few other posters have already mentioned, unless you know exactly what you're doing it's very difficult to make a living trading (this is especially true if you are day trading) and any daily gains you make are probably more down to luck that any real skill.

If you have a some capital saved up you might want to consider deploying it in relatively more stable investments that will provide you with income so you can maybe work less or have a bit more spending money if you choose.

I work in asset management - let me know if you have investing questions and I'll see if I can help.

As others already said, Eastern Europe probably checks off the boxes you're looking for. When I was in Romania and Ukraine a few years ago I was impressed with the internet speeds, even in random cafes. Girls in EE are super hot, but also way more difficult than Asians. Personally I can pull high caliber girls in Asia with much less effort than it takes in Europe or the States. I haven't spent much time in Vietnam (was there 6 years ago), but in general Asia is convenient (at least it is in JP, TW, TH). There are 7-11's on every street corner, where you can eat breakfast, print out documents, mail packages, buy toilet paper, and even meet hot girls. No places I've been to are as convenient as Asia.

How do you think Asians look at white people coming to their country to fuck native women, drink alcohol, use drugs and mess up their natural way of life? It's mostly Australians and British who do this stuff, but it still reflects on white people in general.

Long term stays in Asia require a developed skillset. If you're born in Asia, you develop it as you grow up.

If you grew up in a different part of the world, it's going to take learning some new abilities and coping mechanisms to really be able to call an Asian nation home. Same goes for anyone who relocates to a new place with a radically different culture.

Most Westerners living in Asia are going to experience levels on freedom that they were not used to back home. You can get away with levels of drunkenness and whoremongering that you'd face serious consequences for back home. Even if you aren't painting the town red every night, it's also easy to slip into a fundamentally unhealthy lifestyle on other fronts.

Doing well here for long periods of time (years) requires at least the following three things:

(1) Learning the local language to a degree that you can accomplish any necessary communication without needing to rely on translators or experience regular lack of access and frustration.

(2) Adopting a healthy lifestyle. Don't work too much or two little (I've made the mistake of doing both at different times), engage in regular physical activity, have a community that supports you and allows you support others, find activities that give you a sense of purpose in life, have hobbies beyond fucking girls.

(3) Have regularly scheduled detox experiences outside of the culture where you are living. Although two days in Hong Kong will do me wonders (as I live on the Mainland), a month outside of the country where you are living each year is ideal, even if it doesn't involve going back home.

Yes, tell me more about this natural Asian way of life.

Are you saying that Asian men don't engage in unbecoming and illicit sexual enjoyment that is harmful to the interests of the local women in their country?

Are you saying that Asian people do not use drugs or engage in drunkenness?

Please share more about this pure and natural way of life that those damn Westerners are messing up.

You can feel sick of everywhere at some point. Actually just wrote about that today on my ROK article: http://www.returnofkings.com/129169/when...-to-add-up

Asia's finished.

IMO, it's definitely not worth living in Asia anymore, unless you are really into the culture

I see that you have no accompanying statistics, explanation or rational to go along with your statement which appears to be based on nothing.

I know a great deal of young men who have improved themselves, their lifestyle and their future by choosing to live in Asia.

What do you know?

Hmm....am I being serious that an entire continent of the planet is "finished"?

The fact that I've been going running back to Southeast Asia every single chance I get and have spent the majority of my life for the past ten years there should answer that question. [Image: biggrin.gif]

If not, my response to a similar thread here definitely will: thread-64571...pid1641087

Being in a third world country and getting no decent pussy = a recipe for disaster. That's probably one of the reasons why you see expats having breakdowns and going berserk in public here in Asia. [Image: biggrin.gif]

You also can't really make money in SEA as an English teacher. Most salaries cap out at around $1200 - $2000 tops. If you want to make more than that you're looking at working 7 days a week full-time. Good luck - you'll burn out pretty quickly. China's roughly the same. The salaries have stagnated and they're shoving all these BS requirements and red tape in your face. Meanwhile, cost of living continues to grow. I wouldn't come to Asia to do business these days and 'stack cash' unless I had a stable gig set up from a company abroad or my own successful business.

One of the main draws of asia is you can go there and spend a low amount of money and live with way higher standards than locals. I really don't think you're going to accomplish that working minimal hours at a job or working a job you hate for that matter.
