Instead of a skateboard try motorbike. Less skill an training needed, plus you can actually take girls for a ride. You will need more money trough but common skateboarding is too cheap, it's for children.

If you want to attach success with women with a proficiency at any tool then two most time tested tools are motorbikes and guitars. Master either one and you will have some girl even if you are relatively game-less. But of course you don't really need tools, you need game first and foremost.

As tempting as it is to put in some cheap shots here I'm going to take the high road.

Ol' Lenny used to skate the boards. Most do not know this. I got passably good at it when I was young and poor enough to have to budget for replacing bearings. I also got pretty good at repairing skate shoes with hot-glue sticks and a lighter.

These skills may or may not have been factors in getting to kiss a few girls at drunken parties and cop a feel of the occasional tit. Then again, perhaps my acne was taking that particular weekend off.

On the other hand if I had this forum to peruse then by the time I'd learned how to nollie I could have instead been balls deep in high school pussy (I'd have probably ended up a 16 year old father so maybe there's some silver linings here).

In any case, I got back on a board the other day and it turns out that once you actually build some upper body strength (y'know, that stuff girls like to look at and touch) then my physical build was simply too top heavy to function as a skater.

Take a look at the average skater. His centre of balance rests pretty much at his stupid, oversized shoes. It's possible that having a lame-ass chain attached to your empty wallet helps with that.

My son is 14. He's recently taken up skateboarding, though he's well known and respected at the local skate park as a pretty good BMX rider so I just threw this one to him.

Do you think being a good skateboarder would make girls more interested?

Some of my mates in their 40s still skate from time to time, but these are guys who have been skateboarding and playing in punk bands since the 1980s. Most of the young guys know who they are from their music.

I skateboarded in the days before the invention of the ollie. It took forever to get anywhere. One guy solved it by tying his board to his front foot.

Inelegant at best.

It was like playing basketball before the invention of the jump shot. Or high jumping before the Fosbury Flop.

My skateboarding days are far in the rear view mirror, but part of me wants to just learn the ollie. Is that too much to ask?

Use a board for transportation every now and then, effortlessly jumping up on to curbs when needed.

A few years ago I asked a neighbor who skated the best way to learn the ollie, and he said practice on grass.

I know I am never going to do it, but the things I could have done in my teens with an ollie.

I agree with the other about skating to get girls, but I am also pretty supportive of ridiculous dreams, and if you want to learn to skateboard, just do it when no one is looking, and practice the ollies on grass.

Man, I'm feeling old. Pre-90's Globalism and the Stylistic Conformity it produced, the Skate, Punk and Thrash kids in my community all wore Converse All-Stars. No-one called them 'Chuck Taylors'. There's also the simple reality of being an older teenager and committing age-appropriate mischief, whether breaking into somewhere just because you're bored, going with your mates to fight some rivals, or trying to sneak up to a girlfriend's house and talk your way into her bedroom: you can't make as quiet a getaway on a noisy Skateboard, (which allows easy triangulation of your position by the police and is useless on grass), as you can on foot or on a bike.

I don't remember anyone wearing Vans at all, though they were obviously part of the Cali scene. They only popped into my consciousness in the 90's, because they were initially what Anglophile / Britpop girls and Art Fags wore, before they became THE Skater Shoe.

Man, culture moved FAST back in the 80's and 90's, and entire styles and subcultures came and went in just a couple of years. I don't remember seeing anyone wearing All-Stars for a good twenty years there - Vans definitely won that market battle - until I noticed they're popular gym shoes with Powerlifters.

I've never felt any urge to get back on a skateboard.

One more bit of advice from the young bloke for anyone wanting to learn to ride a skateboard (for fun, not to get laid). Hit the skatepark early in the morning, you'll have it all to yourself for a few hours bar the runners and dog walkers going past. Ain't no other teenager on Earth up at 7am.

Doing stuff like in the video takes a lot of skill. Not three years as an adult. You would have to start young, have summers free to skate all day, have your friends push you to do tricks, and have a young body that can take a fall. I dont even see the fun in it as an adult unless you are already at a semi pro level. Its a quintessential american suburb sport for young teenage boys. At that age you want to go explore parts of town/near by town you haven't seen, harass the renta cops and just hang out and skate. Doubt any girls would even care, I dont know what girls you are going for with this as an adult. As a teen, it could have worked in terms of getting girls, but it wouldnt have been about the skating, more just the bad boy attitude you gave.

When I lived in San Diego, I learned the joys of skating. It's like meditation. It's a lot of fun. You learn a lot about life trying to bomb a hill and avoiding board wobble. (No fear. Be confident.) You learn a lot kick pushing around for hours and finding that perfectly sloped street or stretch with no traffic. You learn a lot eating shit and drawing blood. But I wouldn't do it to get laid. It doesn't work like that.

If you're over 20 you're just going to look ridiculous. If you want a quick fix for getting pussy just buy a motorcycle or start a band. Unless you've been riding since you were a kid you'll probably end up getting seriously hurt or killed on the motorcycle but you're practically guaranteed some prime lays leading up to it. Honestly you're better off just putting in the work and doing cold approaches. Buy cool clothes, tan, and go to the gym for a slight edge. Nothing is free in this life.
