I used to be really into the Pumpkins when I was first getting into music. That was when MTV actually played music videos and I would sometimes stay up hoping to catch some cool shit. Or, possibly, a Henry Rollins rant. Or Lisa Loeb being a sexy nerd singer. And I'd be flipping back and forth between MTV and whatever channel was playying the girls gone wild commercials.

Anyway, their albums were some of the first I bought. It was a big deal buying a cd, and I was blown away that they had a double album for Melon Collie.

Since then, I listen to their epic songs that don't get played on the radio. I remember being upset when their drummer got busted for being a fuckup on drugs.

And I've always had lots of memories tied to this song:

I've never liked the Pumpkins, at all, but have also known Corgan is a shitlord.

Has been from way back in the day.

I like him, not a huge fan of the music.

Everything Billy wrote post '96 is not great. But before that, it is all gold. Some of the b-sides from that time are just as good as the album material, and he was prolific. Jimmy Chamberlain also made this band; his drumming is an essential part of the sound.

Check out the EPs of singles released from the Mellon Collie era. Pisces Iscariot, an album of b-sides, is great. Siamese dream will always be my favorite.

There is a great box set of EP singles from Mellon Collie, five CDs in total. I have a copy which I no longer which to keep, perhaps someone wants to buy it. Of course, that is purely for collector's interest: the tracks are all available online.

It includes what I consider their best ever song. Incredibly, it was unreleased on any album. Billy should have played it smart like the Beatles, and kept some hits in reserve for later albums. But it's the nature of pop music that these guys run out of steam after ten years or so.

I wonder what he thinks of the rumors about Courtney Love being responsible for Kurt Cobain's Death. one thing I got from Soaked In Bleach is that the Seattle Police Department totally mishandled the investigations and the case should be reopened. It's quite suspicious that after all these years Courtney never sued Tom Grant for defamation despite him explicitly accusing her of murder.

^ Corgan was also widely rumored to have ghostwritten Love's breakout album, which given her lack of talent has always struck me as believable.

I was a teen in the 90s and Mellon Collie was the first CD/album I ever bought, and for a kid with no money like me that was a big deal, and a double CD at that, I listened to it a ton of times. I wasn't really into "alternative rock" but I've always liked the Pumpkins and Billy Corgan.

Wow, never knew he dated her. The breakout album you refer to is Live Through This. Apparrently Violet is a song about their breakup

And the sky was all violet
I want to give the violent more violets
And I'm the one with no soul
One above and one below

A lot of people wrote off Hole because Love was such a cunt, but some of their stuff was pretty good and performed very well. Take this song, Doll Parts. Very simple chords. I love how the guitars sound like it could be Buddy Holly playing it, but its performed total grunge. I also like how it begins like a balad and then arcs into anger. PUA note, Neil Strass was fucking someone in this band when he wrote the Game.

This was an awesome interview. Billy really opens up about a lot of real stuff. The conversation about Dennis Rodman was amazing, it makes me want to be back in the '90's. Happy to see him take over the NWA, hopefully he will help preserve the leagues rich history.

^^The thoughts about Courtney Love. For ghostwriting Live Through This, to me the timing doesn't make sense, Billy was still very early in his career, way before he was a major superstar. This was even before Courtney was with Kurt, so I doubt that rumor. The timing just doesn't line up to me. Courtney had been playing in bands for over 10 years before her first album, she was a very schooled artist. Along with her bandmates who were all highly talented themselves. I think her guitarist also wrote a bunch too. Billy mentions how he doesn't buy into a lot of these crazy conspiracies and rumors because he was there. For me being an early fan of all of these bands, and seeing them live multiple times, far before they were famous, I have to draw the same conclusions for myself. The rumors are ridiculously wrong most of the time, in their time lines, assumptions, etc.

Sometimes they start going rogue, then they end up dead (Hendricks, Brian Jones, Lennon, MJ, Cobain, Prince,...)

If by going rogue you mean letting their drug addictions develop into terminal addiction, yes. The only two people on this list I see as being murdered for nefarious motives are MJ and Cobain. Cobain was a rapidly deteriorating burnout and ultra blue pill. Not a threat to anyone except for Courtney Love. I'm not up to speed on the fine details of it, but I do think there's something to the theory that she had him whacked. Jackson...I can see him getting bumped off by Hollywood insiders who really didn't want him to talk about their child sexual abuse rings before he was likely to die from ill-health anyway.

John Lennon was assassinated. The doorman of his UES building, Jose Perdomo, was a temp who just happened to be a high-ranking Cuban-American CIA assassin, the head of special ops group called Operation 40 His identity was withheld from the public record for years... As far as conspiracies go, this one is a slam dunk.

https://jfkcountercoup.wordpress.com/201...a-doorman/

Hendrix and Jones were actually coming clean, and becoming more politically active in the months before they died. Same with Prince, who was openly calling out the cultural rot that the music industry was pushing He went fully red pill, talking about the music industry's agenda of spreading social degeneracy (agenda which he had complied with earlier in his career), and going off on things like chemtrails on TV. He also stood up to the industry, building his own label and studio house, and went clean... Poof.

Michael Jackson has been a target long before he was killed, like Prince, he was a smart businessman who was tired of getting ripped off. The music honchos were pissed at him getting the Beatles' catalog, which had been undervalued when MJ shrewdly snapped it up, later becoming one of the most valuable properties in the industry. MJ was the victim of a smear campaign, to the point where his death was easy to spin as an overdose.

I haven't really looked in detail into Cobain's death. But Courtney Love's father, Hank Harrison, who is a fairly astute observer of the music industry as a former insider in the eye of the hippie hurricane (he managed the Grateful Dead), claims that Love, his estranged borderline psycho daughter, has killed Cobain.

Is there a conspiracy theory out there that you don't believe in?

I tend to agree with you but its hard to wrap my head around the fact that Courtney Love had relationship with Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan, two guys with a lot of options. She must a world class lay.

As for her song writing, the lyrics are consistently personal, female-perspective, and actually quite good. Her first album was unlistenable. The music on their breakthrough album is much simpler and much better. Her skill as a performer is very good as well. So yeah I doubt they wrote the album for her, maybe the music or chord progressions.

BTW, in response to the old comment about Corgan's appearance, he looks positively boyish compared to Michael Stipe from REM.

I think the lesson of both is that it's essential to develop a sense of what it means to look stylish post-40. If you dress down too much and stop shaving you'll invariably start to look like Aqualung--eyeing little girls with bad intent (or boys considering Stipe came out as gay a while back).

I remember an old interview with Steph Carpenter from Deftones where he referred to Corgan as a "bald fuck" or something like that. He was super stoned in the in that interview and was hating on the Pumpkins. It's funny because the Deftones are fucking awful with the exception of a few songs. But back in high school I thought they were gods.

Harrison was the manager of the Grateful Dead, interesting character.

I saw an independent British documentary called "Kurt and Courtney" a few months ago in which Hank said that.

Fun fact: Eldon "El Duce" Hoke of the underground California heavy metal band the Mentors also said in that doco that he was paid $50,000 to kill Cobain, but decided not to. He did, however, give the first name of who he said DID kill Cobain as "Allen" (which many Mentors fans believe means Allen Wrench, another underground punk/metal singer) before saying "I'll let the FBI deal with that", and was found dead by some train tracks two days after he taped his bit for the doco. Mentors fans often believe that Courtney had El Duce killed due to the suspicious timing of his death.

Is there a conspiracy theory out there that you don't believe in?

There are tons of fake ones I don't believe in, like the shape-shifting reptilians, aliens/UFOs/Area51, flat earth etc.

There are, roughly, three kinds of people wrt so-called conspiracies:

1) Inveterate normies who, even when presented with vary basic facts and evidence will dismiss the whole thing as "conspiracy theory", mostly due to the kind of cognitive dissonance that those truth bombs bring.

2) people who are skeptical and understand that the PTBs aren't that benevolent, and that the mainstream propaganda is shock full of lies, but have no discernment or scientific background. These people will buy the kookiest theories, like flat earthers and shape-shifting reptilians.

3) those who understand that the establishment is more pervasive, more organized and more malevolent than portrayed, and have a good filter and the willingness and ability to do the research and separate the baby from the bathwater.

I guess you belong in the first category. You're presented with a simple fact, that Jose Perdomo, the doorman of the Dakota Building who was at the center of Lennon crime scene, was a high-ranking professional CIA assassin (fact), and you still dismiss it?
