So someone told me that taking pure cold ice water baths after long athletic activity of any sorts is actually good for you. It supposedly gets your blood flowing somehow and heals the skin unlike hot water, which is damaging. Has anyone tried this?

I've been taking really cold showers (2x per day) for the last 15 years. I'm 37 yo as of last week, and I look 10 years younger according to girls.

I've been doing at least one 10 minute cold shower every day for the last 6 or 7 months. It will help you lose weight, increase testosterone, alleviate depression and it's great for your skin.

Yea I heard about this from yoga people. Its supposed to super amazing according to them. Something about the blood coming closer to the skin to heat it up and protect it from the cold that cleans out toxins, plus a ton of other good things I can't remember now. I hate them with a passion though, they piss me off so much. How did you get used to them Mix and November?
i guess i suck cause i've been taking cold showers only for couple of days. i'm curious how i will feel after few weeks
Cold showers are probably the reason why I am sooo fucking horny, and full of drive every day!!!
Another benefit:
Cold shower increases testosterone. During the 19th century, many doctors and ministers recommended that young men take baths in cold water to reduce the sin of “self-pollution,” i.e. whacking off. Cold water was thought to extinguish a man’s flaming carnal desires. There was even a ghastly device invented on this principle.
How wrong they were! The same study by the Thrombosis Research Institute cited above showed that cold water showers actually increase testosterone production in men. Increased testosterone levels not only boost a man’s libido, but also his overall strength and energy level.

It also doesn't hurt that you live in hot ass Miami either. I live in cold ass Toronto and I'll be damned if I take a cold shower during these frigid 8 months.
In regards to your 10 years younger look, being latin doesn't hurt either. They say no sagging when you Latin.

I had a leg wound from an accident when I was 21 that would not heal, and my grandmother would suggest that I bathe in regularly ice cold water to speed up healing....after 1 month of cold showers, I grew to like it - which explains my high testosterone levels and wanting sex all the time (and my wound was completely healed with little scarring)

I can only take cold showers when its hot as fuck outside. I remember staying in houses and motels with no water and how much I hated it. I would get my body wet real quick, turn it off, wash my body down and rinse myself off as fast as I could.
I don't think cold showers will help you look young. Its either in your genes or not. I'm glad to be part of the club though

NYT had an article on this and a similar thing - cryotherapy chambers. To date, no one has found a statistically significant link between it and general health indicators like you describe, although it was shown to slightly reduce muscle inflammation after a tough workout.

Tons of Special Forces around the world use outrageously cold water to train their men. They believe it hardens them, acclimating their bodies and minds to withstand, and even come to enjoy, pain and discomfort.
There's a saying that says how you approach an ice water bath reflects how you approach all hardship in your life.
If you squirm and groan and turn the dial back to hot after just a couple minutes, it basically means you're a bitch that will probably back out of approaching a cute girl at the coffee shop. Eventually you want to get to the point where you look forward to the baths and relish the ostensibly "uncomfortable" sensation.

Contrast baths. In a perfect world, you have a tub with ice in it, and a hot tub. You jump in between them.

I don't know about cold baths but the hot water heater was broken at a place I was staying while traveling, so I had to take cold showers whether I wanted to or not for a few days. After shower #2 I got used to it. I wouldn't say I like it but I think cosmetically it's supposedly to be good for your skin, supposedly it closes your pores whereas hot water leaves them open.
The reason why it's feasible that it could "keep you looking young" is that hot showers dry out your skin. So if you add up how many showers you take over 10-20 years, perhaps it would make a diff. besides other factors.

Football players SWEAR by this. Their bodies are beaten up, with lots of deep bruising. Dips in the cold tub greatly aid muscle recovery and healing of bruising. The raising of testosterone levels is a benefit. One if the treatments for male infertility is dips in a tub of ice water.
When you finish shaving, splashing your face with cold water tightens up your skin, closes pores, and if you've nicked yourself, stops bleeding.

Alright so I'm eating bee pollen, drinking vinegar, now I'm going to be taking cold baths from now on, this forum man, this forum
You're supposed to drink vodka(blood thinner) and do the sauna or sweat lodge thing first in order to sweat out all the toxins from your body. Then you jump into an ice water bath. This quickly reduces your body temperature and forces all the blood in your body to concentrate in the center of your body and in your vital organs. Your body then tries to compensate for the dramatic loss of body temperature and quickly causes your body temperature to spike above 98.6 degrees. This kills off any bad bacteria in your body. Supposed to be very good for your health. Follow it up with some fresh homemade yogurt to replace any good bacteria you killed and you'll be a healthy 110 year old Russian man before you know it. Just took my first cold water batch, and that was fucking terrible, but I'll endure.
How long should you stay in for? I was in for about 5-10 minutes.

Take a Scottish shower. Hot water shower to do your business followed by a ice cold water shower. Stay in as long as you can bear it. Once the water doesn't feel cold to you anymore your body has adjusted to it and you can leave. It's not an exact science.

I'd have to see some solid medical evidence before subjecting myself to cold shower regiments. I remember how fucking miserable I've been standing in the snow using baby wipes or a bottle of water to bathe. Or walking hundreds of yards in freezing temps just to take a cold shower. No thank you. I'll take mine hot.
Besides, there's one negative effect of cold showers I can think of:

My shower is busted, I've been taking baths for a few weeks now, but that answers the question thanks
@Ali
Heh, yeah, the only way to describe it, my dick looked really disappointed in me as soon as I got in

I did this in some hot springs in Sun Valley, Idaho. It was sick cause they were in a river where you would see ice blocks floating by and you could jump between the rocks of icecold river water and really hot, hot spring water.
theres some pseudo-science going around that cold showers increase testosterone levels, which would make sense if the claims are healing since that shit will fix you right up.
But its bro-science. Do it for a few days and see how you feel.

The hot and cold bath thing just increases circulation which helps blood flow to Mr Happy. Same effect as Viagra only homeopathic.
There's probably no way to measure testosterone increase without a pre and post blood test and analysis.

I've heard good things about contrast showers/baths.
When I visited a friend who had a super-high-tech shower, there was a button with a snowflake marked "Scottish Shower"... if you pushed it, it would randomly slam the valves to full-cold for several seconds and then back to warm. Confusing as hell for the body, but my surprised yells probably amused everyone in earshot...
