It seems class related unless it's a strategic marriage for the upper class. Borderline middle and lower class Chinese guys simply can't be picky. I cannot find the post or wherever I wrote about it before, but Chinese men prefer:

1) Face (not literally)
2) Guanxi/money/connections
3) Porcelain white Skin
4 and 5) beautiful face or height
6) Education

If you look at that white woman, she hits every checkbox before beauty, so therefore what he chose makes perfect sense to me. Don't think for a minute that he would have a pretty Chinese wife either. He probably would have ended up with a 5 or 4. Guys do marry those ya know.

Also, familiarity breeds contempt. He probably had a few run ins with some tigers. So a gentle giant white woman that looks like she has mild Aspergers, would be just right for him.
