Is it a fact that products are cheaper online comparing to high street stores?

Most of the products i have been buying in the last few years have been through ebay or amazon, the diversity and the comfort of shopping online cant be matched with high street stores. So lately i dont even bother going to shops any more, i just buy my products online (well specially now when im abroad). However i am looking to visit New York in summer time and i am wondering if i can find cheap stores that sell clothes and electronics cheaper than what you can find on ebay. Is it possible to find cheap quality items in NY high street stores just as you can find on ebay?
My question is mainly about where is cheaper to shoop (online vs high street stores) but please feel free to point out some stores in NY where is real cheap to buy goods.

You're late to the party my friend! I've been doing this for years. If I see an ad in the paper, or see something in a store, I always look for it online first. You can almost always find it cheaper. For some products the price is what it is when it first hits the market, but if you wait a little you can find it cheaper online. Depending on what site you get it from, you may be able to avoid sales tax and shipping and handling too.

A western country would be the last place I'd imagine where High street can compete with online.
The premise first stated with online shopping, and I mean nearly 20 years ago, was it be offered without the overheads that plague face to face shopping.
No rent
No utility bills
No security wages to prevent shoplifting
Open 24 hours a day
Now for any outlet in NY, it has to pay rent in NY. Each item sold in such a store has a margin containing a portion of the rent.
Electronics would be near impossible as they are such a generic commodity. Weight really only plays an issue because of single item freight, instead of massive volume discounts and shipping by the container.
Clothes are hard basically because of fitting an individual is unique and vendors _CAN_ charge a premium for this. A high street outlet with no premium vs online with a a premium can even out.

Just compare everything you see on the streets to amazon and you'll see.
