Empire of Illusion

So I'm reading this, and enjoying quite the incisive rant against mindless consumerist drivel propagated by a decadent society exploiting the pathetic dreams of the ill-educated masses through televised spectacle...

But he loses me in the 2nd part of the book where he goes on against porn because of the standard Andrea Dyke-in (see what I did there) trope that porn is evil because it's mean to the poor widdle girls who only get jackhammered rawdog because of their tragic upbringing and desperation to pay for medical treatments for their chihuahua with puppy-cancer.

He utterly fails to notice that the attitude of the (ex)actresses he interviews are completely contingent on whether or not they're currently profiting from their career choice. The 20 year old starlet is perfectly willing to maintain the facade of being a sexually insatiable nymphomaniac because she's getting paid thousands of dollars a day to get split like a piece of firewood by Kuffi Undugu Toobuku, the coal-black giant from the darkest abyssal depths of the Heart of Darkness, brought in chains to the shores of Western Civilization for fear that his titanic member would destroy its handlers with its sheer phallic might.

Conversely, the 30 year old ex porn actress is no longer making money from getting regular coats of 100% organic whitewash, at which point she suddenly determines that porn is exploitative and becomes a feminist. Obviously it's someone else's fault that she spent the money she made in her twenties on shoes, probably Kuffi's. The author admonishes politicians and celebrities as cynical purveyors of civilization deadening tripe, while he casts porn actresses as victims of a chauvinistic society, rather than victims of their own youthful greed and attention-seeking behavior.
