How many of you guys have been to Viña del Mar in Chile? It's beautiful. Looks a lot like San Diego. That and Valparaiso (which is the adjacent city just a few minutes away) are the only places in Chile I fuck with, though I haven't been any father south than Santiago. It's got a nice casino, huge mall, sick beaches, and it's very affluent. It feels like you're in the South of France or something like that. You'd never know you were in South America. That's also one of the handful of cities in South America where I saw a Starbucks.

I just thought of it when I read the post about Uruguay. I would say VDM is Chile's answer to Punta del Este and Argentina's Mar del Plata. The following pic is a talent sighting in VDM.



I didn't capture any local flags, but I only spent a full week in Chile (including VDM, Valpo, Santiago, and Arica), and I wasn't on the chicks there. VDM was supposed to be the first time I was going to use Couchsurfing, but I ended up chillin with this gringa at a hostel and inadvertently flaking on my host. The potential host was a decent looking chick though and gave me her number and everything. She was very down to host. I'd need to spend more time down there to really evaluate what the girls are like, but if you're ever in that part of SA, stop through VDM for sure. I didn't see any threads about it on here so I figured it's worth mentioning. Below is the potential host I was talking about (all the way right in the other one):

Yeah. That's right. If you're ever in Valparaiso, VDM is just a 10-15 minute bus ride or taxi over.

Problem with Chile, and especially Vina, is that you get just as much attitude as Argentine girls but less beauty.

Have been to both. Captured my Chile flag the night I arrived.

I felt Vina and Valparaiso were a bit over rated in truth. Had fun and the new years fireworks display was nice but as long as you dont believe the hype and expect too much, its a nice place.

Nice. That's dope you caught a local flag first night. I didn't expect anything from Chile actually, so I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by Valpo and, to a lesser extent, Vina. Valpo was like a spitting image of San Francisco in many ways. I couldn't get over that. I also liked its edgy bohemian vibe. It was a real colorful city with a unique style. Santiago was sprawling, drab and austere in comparison.

I only used Chile as a conduit to get to Argentina by bus. I spent over a month in the latter country. I went through Chile because they didn't charge any overland visa fee for Americans, like Bolivia, which charged something like $130 at the time. I couldn't justify paying that fee to go to Bolivia because I'm not attracted to their local women and there's nothing really to see there besides the salt flats. I was interested in Chile for a few reasons and I wasn't exactly sure what the locals would look like since they absorbed all kinds of European immigrants in the past. I was keen on checking out Santiago as a city as well.

All in all, Chile isn't a place I would go back to, unlike Brazil and, to a lesser extent, Argentina. However, if you find yourself in Chile, check out Valpo and VDM.
