Time or Money? What's more important?
02-01-2012, 08:23 AM
Hey guys, great forum and I'm glad to be a part of it.
I'm setting off an a trip I've been planning and saving $ for a while.
But, I've got the chance to save up more $. I got offered this contract for 5 months. I'm figuring I can save up an extra 12,000.
Now, this city I live in is shithole industrial wasteland and I'd hate the work. Basically, the time is pretty much wasted.... but I'd save up more $.
I have enough $ for what I need for my trip.. but extra cash as a safety net can't hurt right?
On the other hand, I can see myself looking back at my life and saying "I'd give all my money for another 5 months in my 20s again".
Its a tough choice: if I go, I lose out on 12K. If I stay, I have 5 months less time.
What's the smart move here?

Work harder so you can save up more money.
Why is it better to party in your 20s than in your 30s?

If working and saving the money will prevent you from having to be in the same situation next year, just to repeat the process do it.
Just don't blow the money and end up back where you started.
As for your question, the answer is Time of course.
You can make more money but never more time.

Its a dead end temp job that's not advancing the lifestyle I want. I wouldn't even put it on my resume. Basically, I'd only take it for the cash. When my buddy gets out of the army we're gonna start our own business.
Now, again I have enough saved up for what I need now. But you can always have more, you know? I'd feel safer saving up more money, but I wouldn't be developing myself, in fact I'd be regressing.
I'm thinking of skipping the cash. I grew up poor so I've got a scarcity mentality sometimes, but I feel like going out there and doing what I really want to be doing is the right choice.
@Pilgrim37; I definitely won't blow the money. I'm living on $25/week now (beans, apples, and eggs).

You live in the USA? Make a LOT more money. Fuck this shit.
I'm not in the USA. The whole reason I left was to experience the girls, but somewhere along the line I got scared. So, I started focusing on making $. I'm done with that. If I wanted to make $ I would have stayed in the states. The way it is now..I'm neither making big money nor banging chicks.

Yup, I'll go bang the girls..then see what I need to do. I'm in good shape financially, but not 100% safe. A wise man told me:
In life at times you can't take the safest route.
Words to live by.

Oh shit, this was sent to me in a PM 5 min ago:
Immauel Kant said: When I was young I needed woman but I had not enough money for them. Now as I am old I don´t need women but I have money.
Best quote I could have found!

In my opinion, money should directly translate to time.
The more money you have, the more opportunities you have to travel, go out, meet girls and live your ideal life.
The key is in finding a job that allows you to turn your money into time.
So, your question shouldn't be money vs time or experience, it should be how to find a way to combine the two.

Time because while and can lose a fortune and then earn another 1, you cannot get back a single second once it's wasted.

As others have said time is way more valuable. That being said, if you feel that you will not have enough to fully enjoy your time with no regrets you shouldn't waste the time or money (until you know you have the money).
