The GOP has shown great discipline as it fights the president's $447-billion jobs plan, even as polls show Americans largely support its various elements.
The 51-49 vote in the Senate, as two Democrats joined all Republicans in opposition, comes as Republicans and Democrats are vying for the public's approval on the jobs front."
The question isn't why block it if the people support it, its will it work?
Fed aid to teachers. Why? Education budget has expanded exponentially since the 70s and all we have to show for it is kids showing their teachers how to use iTunes. Work on getting better teachers, not hiring every shmuck that applies.
Fed aid to first responders. That I agree with.
Fed aid to roads, bridges and schools. Yeah, that was called the Stimulus and every other similar idea in the last 3 years. Hasn't worked yet.
Fed aid to unemployed. I agree with that too, being that I survived on unemployment for 6 months. Gotta have some kind of safety net.
Payroll tax holiday. Any tax holiday is a good holiday. How about a gas tax holiday too considering most state and fed gas taxes add at least 40 cents to the price of gas.
Raise income taxes over $250K. Will it bring more revenue in the short term? Maybe. Will it create more incentive for finding, using and fucking the shit out of tax loopholes? Definitely. Screw this losing jobs thing the Repubs talk about, people care about their money more than anything and they'll find ways of hiding it from the government.
Raise income taxes over $1 million. Same as above. Find me a Caribbean Island bank to invest in!!!!
It won't work. There's plenty of federal aid for people, public unions and federal agencies, but where the hell are the jobs going to come from? Road work is temporary. After that, those workers need to get back to building subdivisions and office towers, things they can't do if the money is all tied up because the business sector is scared shitless to try anything. I get securing the safety net for people, but you gotta wag the carrot infront of the fat cats as well. Class warfare makes for bad realpolitk.
