Big mistake if you ask me, debates about politics lead to nothing but anger, forum members start to dislike each other and it carries over to other discussions.

I would just disallow and remove politics threads, there are plenty of places on the web where people can debate politics and troll each other to cyber death. This isn't the topic of this website to begin with so it's fair enough to expect people not to debate politics here.

Banning topics is extreme, and something I only reserve for P4P.

Just because there is a politics subforum, doesn't mean guys can break the rules and disrespect others. Read the subforums sticky.

Good idea, in my opinion. The political discussions have been pretty heated--and numerous--lately and it's a good idea to rein it in. I think we all can fall victim to getting caught up in a lively discussion (I myself recently got drawn into one), and it's good to be reminded of the limitations and boundaries of an Internet forum.

Separating it out and hitting the reset button on the rules does that, I think.

I think it will die down after OWS cools off. Then it will pick up again as the presidental elections get close. I has been heated but also entertaining and informative.

If I thought people would be rational I'd actually use that forum to debate, now it's however another venue for my personal brief amusement.

Debating politics or religion is OK if you're not drunk in a bar or sitting at the dinner table.
