OK, the time to leave Whale Country is approaching I've got about 6-8 weeks left in Murka. I'm old, get out sooner if you can, boys- if you want kids and aren't making 200K+.

icelandair.com has stopover flights that allow you to stay in Reykavik for a few days and the total price ONE WAY from NorCal to Amsterdam is less than $700. It seems like a no brainer when other airlines are so much more and I hope to see the Northern Lights. ITALY
Thoroughly exhausted, and saddled with Ukrainian chick and brats, I'll probably settle in Italy until she finds a taller Italian she can ditch me for.

The problem is how much stuff to bring ( I'll actually be storing until I tell them where to ship)

I have a bunch of stuff that I'm trying to figure out how to handle-- will it be cheaper to ship or sell-then-buy? I have like 3 guitars, 2 bicycles, and the guitars especially aren't things that can be just switched, you really get to know them.

it would be real difficult to bring all I need with me-- I have a high end computer, bicycles, guitars, cameras... each additional suitcase is 200-300 and it makes it so hard to go everywhere.. in taxis.. hostels.. poor security..

But If I ship to Ukraine, will it be so crooked I'll have to pay 3k in bribes to get my shipment?

I may wait and have them ship to Italy, which may not be much better.

Ideas on shipping?

I think the absolute minimum I could live with would be (2) guitars, laptop, camera bag, suitcase, but that puts me into 3 extra luggage pieces and
I have to buy a bicycle which is my major form of recreation.

Call Fed Ex. Pack your shit and ship as needed. Nothing worse that having to carry a bunch of crap around in an unfamiliar place.
.Take what you can carry and air freight the rest when you get set up.

Kids: Yes, but not in Murka. They can come here after they develop some character and get it destroyed.

I looked up we've been humanoid for about 4 million years, at 20 years per generation that means about 200,000 generations with not one interruption or we wouldn't exist. That doesn't even count the MILLIONS of generations of our protozoan, insect, lizard, and mouse ancestors -- not one of whom ever missed.

I think that kind of genetic setup runs a little deeper than conscious motivation and the casual thought " I don't want kids 'cause then I can't drink on Fridays and Saturdays." Not judging anyone else, I just don't even look at it as a real conscious decision. As hard to stop yourself as stopping breathing, just on a schedule of years instead of minutes.

I have a road ( racing) bicycle and a hard-tail mountain bike.

Thanks for the FedEx idea, I could have a friend who'll store the stuff and ship when I am "settled." Each guitar is like $300 to ship to europe though.

Funny. I have a theory that trailer parks breed healthy kids. I had mine with one from a trailer park in Key West.

The rep from Fed ex local is a friend of mine. He came in my shop and was telling me about how reliable they are becoming global.

Talk to one. A strong local bike shop has boxes and could pack your bike titties. The ones here charge about $60.

I have a bike fetish and just stopped racing 40+ 24in cruiser last year. I will restart next year when I teach my daughter and rebuild the psychopath jr I got for her... What bikes are you sending?
