Favela party in Rio de Janeiro

Favela party in Rio de Janeiro

Yesterday i went to a favela funk part in Rio de Janeiro.

It sucked. it was hyped up by a guy in the hostel all week as a pussy heaven where girls will be easy. I had high expetations because i looked at some youtube vids and they looked amazing.

Heres how it went down. We were taking into a minibus and driven to the dancehall. It was a giant hall. beer was cheap and they even gave a free beers away in the beginning.

The music was eardrum destroying loud. i could feel the bass in the fillings of my teeth and at some point through my whole body. The beer in my glass looked like the scene from the first Jurassic park movie where the T-rex is stamping around.

The bass i could take but the rest of the music was way too loud. my ears are still ringing and its 5pm the next day. The music is basically one guy screaming into the microphone all night with techno/funky beats. I like most kinds of music but this was terrible.

We were there with 7 (gringo) people. 3 guys and 4 (ugly) girls. we were the only foreigners out of a thousand people. There were tons of hot girls around all standing in pairs or triplets; I was advised not to approach any girl there because according to my mate they all had boyfriends lurking around who would beat my ass with 10 guys if i start talking to their girlfriends. Since brazil is mostly about kissing i decided not to take a chance.

It was frustrating to see so many hot girls around and not do a damn thing. The brazilian guys were not approaching the girls also so i guess my mates story is correct.
My mate said that the free girls will approach us. well guess what. No girl ever did. Not me,my mate or the other guy from the hostel. Nothing

The dancing was lame with lots of guys doing a synced dance. the girls mostly stood around.
there was no but shaking ,no girls in thongs. It was plain boring. i would have more fun just watching a movie in the hostel that night.

i was expecting this :

Check out the insanely hot girl in red at 1:05m and again at 1.36m

Sounds like a recipe for success right there.

You should have at least just tried talking to one girl, just to feel the place out. Brazilians aren't likely to beat you down just for talking to a girl for 5 seconds. You would at least have time to run.

Also, since I'm assuming most of these girls were working class, I doubt any speak Portuguese. How were you planning on gaming them without speaking Portuguese? It seems your only option was to approach them and get them to dance then go straight for the make out?

Yep... of course you can approach the girls there. A Brazilian guy will never leave his girl unattended as he knows she'll get approached immediately. Guess you've been to favela "castelo das pedras". Always love it when they as 5R$ for the VIP [Image: smile.gif] (2euro). Most of the girls are extremely easy to approach, but don't talk (music to hard for that anyhow), just dance some funk, turn them around (they'll be with their asses "dancing" against you) and kiss her.

Castelo das pedras is one of the first favela's occuppied with the UPP (peace keeping police), so the times of people running in with guns is long over. Some drunk mens fights sometimes, yes, but even then the bouncers will jump in and even close the place. Or police will shut the place down for good.

Neil, this is Brazil. You are the guy, you hunt, show it clearly & take what you want. Way more than you do this in Asia... And, about all Brazilian girls who do clearly approach and basically "rape" tourists just while they walk around .This is mongering talks. Guys with hookers. In Brazil they say: only a hooker hunts for a gringo.
You'll find those experiences in Balcony...

They are working class... type C in Brazil... cleaning ladies, the girls working in the coffee shops,... [Image: smile.gif] . Again, don't worry to much about the ghetto part to much. It's safer then your average night in Copacabana... (seriously). Veel veiliger dan Rotterdam of Amsterdam by night [Image: wink.gif]

Have I gotten approached in some places? Hell yeah... for every 20 ordinary approaches I make. Do the work, be the selector.

"Working class" is a nice way in America to say someone is a poor uneducated ghetto loser.

Anyway, you didn't even really try so you don't know the reason for the party sucking so just get over it and get on to the next victim.

My father was "working class" and wasn't poor nor uneducated and most definitely not a loser. He was a middle class, blue collar worker that would be defined as "working class".

You seem to be blinded by race and class in most of your posts.

Contrary to popular belief, most cockblocks honestly don't know that they're cockblocks. An anti-game beta friend can be just as damaging as a heckling boorish fratboy. Probably even moreso, because you can't shut them down cold like you can an asshole stranger who's obviously picking a fight.

Beta cockblocks typically screw with your game by holding you back "Don't touch her, you're going to get shanked!", ruining conversation/vibe with wierd topics "Good god I miss my ex.", and third-wheeling enough to wreck your attempts at isolation, "Oh yeah, I need to smoke too." Either let your bro borrow your copy of Bang!, or find a new wingman.

Also, you went in a large group. You recognized it was a shit nightspot, but I guessing the rest of the group didn't want to follow you out? A surprising amount of people would rather swallow their cab fare and coverage charge rather than move onto greener pastures. Assuming you didn't want to ditch them (because you didn't,) try rolling with a smaller group you can more easily influence.

As a corollary to the above, what was you plan B nightspot? This is especially key because you chose this place blind. You found out it sucked, and then you were stuck there. If you don't have a plan B for bouncing or insta-dates, you need to start packing one. There's a big difference between "This place sucks." and "This place sucks. Let's go to club awesome."

The girls in the first video look like the were paid to be there. It seems somewhat staged.

And the girls in the second one look like fat cows.

Yeah.

Go easy on the "working class" insults.

My Grandfather came from Ireland and I have proud "working class" roots.

Hell, I spend a few years working construction.

I am telling you this for you own benefit.

You know, so in the real world you won't get a "working class" boot up your *ss.

Now that i think of it, the people in there didn't look all that dangerous. I saw a lot worse at the lapa street party on friday and i approached girls there. Unfortunally the language barrier hit me hard and i only kissed a girl.

My "mate" in the hostel is a well traveled black guy who works in the hostel. he tries to game all the chicks in the hostel, he talks big game but now that i think of it i never saw him approach girls anywhere else.

Maybe he did cockblock me. anyway besides the cockblocking i didnt like the favela party that much. The music was way too loud.

Neil,

As a blonde non old dude I find it almost impossible you did not get IOI's in a FAVELA. A posh club in Ipanema yea but a favela?!?!?

Where you just not looking hard, not walking around enough? Not dancing with any chicks?

It is prob best to go to a REAL favela funk party (but with a local that lives there). These tourist ones are not the real deal imo.

That sounds like a wack ass funk party. I think your first mistake was having a gringo take you to the party. Try and befriend some brazilians and tell them what you thought about the party. Tell them you want to go to a better funk party, I bet they'll show you a good one. One of my girlfriends is into Brazilian funk and she raves about how crazy the parties are. She's showed me videos of some crazy ass shaking going down.

Give us a good round up of your Rio experience:

standard of women/girls in general.

How long are you there for?

Problem is none of the middle class Brazilian people you're likely to meet will take you to one in a favela, they're even more terrified of the places than we are and eat up all the bullshit and hype they hear in the media. A lot of them don't seem to like funky too much either, they think it's for the poor, uneducated Brazilians. It is pretty terrible music for the most part but I've a cheeky soft spot for Cidinho & Doca - Rap Das Armas (parapapapa). Anyone who's been to Brazil will know the song, for me the sums up Brazil perfectly.

That party you went to sounds horrible. I went to some of the non touristy ones, in Rochina, with a guy who lives in the favela. Sunday night was the gringo party, Saturday night was the drug gang party (they've been kicked out now). I was careful due to the guys with guns and didn't want to try and chat up the wrong girl but it was obvious which ones were single and which weren't. You could have easily approached at this one I think. To have expected girls dancing in thongs might have been a stretch of the imagination however.

It surprised me also i was not getting even a smile out of these girls.

It wasnt a tourist place, we were the only 7 gringos on a 1000 people.

It was Rocinha funk party.
