Twilight Zone 2019 (New Series)

Anybody watching this? It's seven episodes into season 1 right now.

Seems to be very preachy leftist, anti-male, girl power, pro-homo.

It's more social commentary than anything else.

Not the weird science fiction I remember loving as a kid.
I feel dirty watching it.

Here's an episode guide.

Seems to be? I don't think there's any ambiguity about it whatsoever.

I have slowed down in bringing woke entertainment to this forum because it's now the norm rather than the exception. The "wokening" has swept through entertainment like a fast-moving cancer, destroying everything in its wake: Star Wars, Star Trek, Twilight Zone, MCU, Doctor Who, etc...

Isn't this show hosted by that guy who directs "woke" horror films? That should've been the first clue this was going to be total propaganda.

Yeah, I think this abomination was sign-posted very early on. There's no surprises here. Except for the fact that they are still happy to be so blatant about it and avoid any pretense at subtlety.

Just another beloved franchise that's been hijacked, stripped to the bones and then horribly and hastily remade in order to deliver a deadly sjw payload while at the same making a quick buck on a well-known brand.

Absolutely everything in the msm is left-wing. I'm reminded of a 'Law' by conservative writer John O'Sullivan, which states that;

“All organisations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing.”

I think they are doing us a favor by going so over the top with ‘wokeness’. We need less entertainment, and the more ‘woke’ a show, movie, whatever, becomes, the less entertaining it is.

Personally, it’s getting harder and harder to find any entertainment in the entertainment products being sold by the major corporations. Even if I try to close my heart to all the filth, propaganda and dog whistles to the satanic inversions, it really isn’t that amusing. I think the last big budget movie I watched was Deadpool (the first), everybody said it was hilarious and fast-paced, but it was boring as hell to me. Wow, a snarky, sarcastic super hero who breaks the fourth wall, how avant-garde - haven't I seen this a thousand times done much better though? Yeah, I have. And even if I hadn't, it was still 2 hours I could have spent watching some urban exploration on youtube, or even pewdiepie - much more entertaining if I just want to melt into my couch. And I realize that this example is actually one of the least formulaic movies out there, at least from super hero type crap. But how many more of this crap can people take realistically, even without bullshit diversity in it? Same with shows. I kinda liked the first season of Cobra Kai but the new one is ruined now.

So I hope wokeness really does become more obvious and in-your-face. We have to remember the subversion worked because it was subtle. Now that it’s getting overt, it will lose its power to those who are not already lost and especially on the fence. We desperately need people to stop funding and consuming what the oligarchs produce.

No.

I avoid all mainstream entertainment.

My guilty pleasures are/were Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and the daily Live PD clips on YouTube.

Modern stuff is too preachy and just generally awful, like you said. There is plenty of good entertainment spanning the past ~3000 years of European history anyway.

This is why in 2016, "The Andy Griffith Show" was the 60th most popular show on TV -- out of everything. It's being re-run on MeTV. If that many people are tuning into a 50-year-old show about traditional American life, you can bet a lot of other people also hate today's "woke" product.

Here are some alternatives:

* The reruns on MeTV and Antenna TV. Both these stations are broadcast digitally over the airwaves and you don't need cable. Your local stations might carry them.

* The Hallmark Channel. Don't laugh. The rom-coms and series they run are like the programs and movies Hollywood made in the 1980s. Also, almost all the plots are about single career women who are tightly-wound and miserable until the right guy comes along. This must drive feminists nuts, but they're fun to watch and the female leads are usually nice-looking.

* Various Web sites that offer free obscure vintage movies. I don't want to put the URLs out here because I don't want to make these sites a target for copyright censors. But if you look, you can find them. Or message me.

* YouTube has also become a treasure trove of old talk shows, game shows, and forgotten dramas and sitcoms. If you liked something as a kid and it's not on DVD, odds are it's on there.

* Archive.org. This site started out (I think) as a way for Deadheads to swap digital rips of old Grateful Dead concert tapes. It's expanded to include an insane amount of stuff, like old time radio dramas ("Damon Runyan Theatre," "Johnny Dollar") and old radio talk shows. For example, there are several pages that allow you to hear shows by the late, great Jean Shepherd, the guy who wrote the 1983 cult classic "A Christmas Story."

* Music blogs. There is a loose network of blogs dedicated to old, out-of-print music. Again, I don't want to put links here, but if you do a bit of searching and can find one, you can find more on their blogroll, which will then lead you to more, etc.

Anyone remember the outer limits that was on the TV in the 90s? Most of them had unfortunate endings for the main characters or humanity. [Image: lol.gif]

We dont get much of that anymore these days. Nothing says entertainment than watching a set of doomed characters.

Everything on (((TV))) is fucking retarded nowadays. I always knew I'd become that cranky old man after 30 with the "these kids today and their music" mentality but this is something else.

Cobra Kai was decent though. The only other decent thing I can think of recently was the last Curb Your Enthusiasm season and the first Sicario.

That's assuming the average person has normal conception of what constitutes "entertainment".

While it may not be as large as Hollywood thinks it is, there IS a market for woke entertainment. It's people who aren't really interested in story. They're interested in identity- or ideology-validation, victim-olympics, wish-fulfillment and social-engineering.

I really think the watershed moment was Shape of Water winning the Oscar. A movie about a woman using a kidnapped mermaid with the intelligence of a toddler as a sextoy did not deserve an Oscar. It won because it was porn for left leaning feminists who could crow about how it skewered CIS white males and their toxic Mad Men-era masculine ideas.

Just remember that Deadpool is actually supposed to be pansexual.

My point is that it won't matter how obvious and in-your-face is to people who have become so brainwashed that they just don't look for the same things in entertainment that normal people do anymore.

I mean, see how long you can last reading some Mary Sue articles. (and if you get triggered, don't bother trying to comment on THEIR turf.) Those SJWs are so busy deconstructing what they're watching and measuring it against this or that ideological litmus tests that they simply aren't capable of losing themselves and being moved by the story anymore. Just cold SJW computers spitting out mathematical grades of virtue-points.

And I'm telling you a LOT of young people today view it that way.

Deadpool is related to that in the sense that it's meta. When you become too meta, you distance yourself from the work. My most awe-inspiring experience in the theater was watching the Star Destroyer pass overhead in Star Wars. Today SJWs would probably just write down a note in their notebook that the shot is a phallic symbol.

This infusion of "political struggle" into our minds is corrosive in the sense that it leaves no room for art to actually function AS ART. It can only be analyzed clinically as if a cell under a microscope.

And unfortunately once SJW entertainment has become so overt then it sort of drags those who DO want real entertainment to cry foul, so we wind up being dragged into the political dumpster-fire just as much by getting triggered and responding.

What I'm starting to notice lately, and I hope we see more of it, is a drive to shift from a protest stance (which won't work, as the entertainment industry won't listen) to a creator stance. Ultimately if you want a product a certain way and nobody's making it, you have to find a way to make it yourself.

It just might be wishful thinking to imagine that normies will just start boycotting this stuff en masse. Look at the grosses for Captain Marvel, for instance. Hollywood is great at wrapping SJW propaganda in enough of a sugar-pill for normies to swallow it.

So I don't really believe get woke, go broke. I think at least when it comes to established properties with decades of goodwill invested, it's more like "get woke, make...less profit" And Hollywood seems to be OK with the tradeoff.

But I'd be glad to be proven wrong.

From the Deadpool article:

The irony is that, by definition, pansexual folks are attracted to people without regard for their sex or gender identity, so rather than bouncing between being gay or straight, pansexual is another discrete, valid sexual identity.

They make up a word, and then think it defines reality. Oh my God, shut them up!

About the time of this thread, I came to turns realizing that I would not play another video game, tv show, book, created after 2015. This wasn't as hard as it sounded. When you are being reamed by 21st Century work regimens, you don't have much time. Games I pirated to play immediately in 2018, are still not played.
Additionally, the mid-19th to 2015 had some great content to consume. Just the Star Trek novels, 1977-2020 (Paramount only killed the normal Star Trek in that year, book-wise), is enough to last a life time of Star Trek fill--that's about 800 novels.
However, not being able to see cutting-edge graphics, not seeing new comedy (which ages the worst), is sad.
