Honestly, I think they have a point.
Williams sisters and their father are dark skin. Wouldn't be hard to find a guy who looks more like the father.

I suppose having Smith though would give if wider appeal.

From what I read, Richard Williams grew up in Louisiana when the KKK was still very much active. NotwIthstanding, it also sounds like he harbored resentment against whites and he and his friends engaged in stealing from whites. I’m guessing an implied recent white ancestor is too close to comfort for some. Richard Williams is going to be portrayed as a hero in this movie I assume.

Or it could just be the left getting even more racist and batshit crazy. It’s another example of the left trying to challenge notions of attractiveness (e.g. putting fat chick on cover of Cosmo).

This story reminded me of something not directly related to Will Smith and this movie. Back in the mid 90’s, there was the Star Trek Voyager tv series. In this series, Tuvok, the Vulcan, was played by a black actor. (Incidentally, the Captain of the ship was a female too.). Anyway, this type of experiment in Hollywood has been going on for a while and there are undoubtedly examples much earlier than the 90’s. At least in Star Trek you have the science fiction realm where anything is possible and not subjected to historical verification.
