The man was tased a total of 11 times, some after he was already handcuffed. His crime? Not having ID on him as the passenger of a car. It appears that his "resisting" is actually his seatbelt holding him in the car, as the cop never gave him a chance to take it off. The cop was neither prosecuted nor fired.

The victim is the wrong color for this to make a splash as a major national story, but it's possibly the most egregious example of police brutality I've ever seen.

I figured no cop would be dumb enough to do shit like this while his body camera was still active, but I guess over time it becomes just another part of their kit and they forget the ramifications of even having it on.

As an aside, while the officer is a piece of shit the victim is also apparently a scumbag.

This reminds me of an Million Dollar Extreme bit where the cop taps the camera on, and then taps it off. While not quite the reality, it depicts an ideal world for cops were there is little oversight even though there are oversight mechanisms in place, but they are contravened. Back in the real world that means the footage is suppressed, routinely. Many cops are living a false reality dictated by the "Blue Wall" which is the police code of silence. In such a reality everyone is worthy of their wrath because they (police) put their lives on the line every day, even though we are living in a much less violent time than say, the 90's. And the statistics would bear that out.

It's very simple: the cameras mean little to nothing in the scheme of things. Ending up in a courtroom: not a problem. People still choose to believe the police even if the camera footage says otherwise. Many police routinely lie under oath. That's a problem that many are aware of. Often, cases where there's clear camera footage don't even get to trial because of bias in the system. Good luck getting a jury to convict a cop at trial. People believe cops because they have badges.

The second bit of the sketch the cop likens himself to a garbageman, as he goes about dealing with bums. A good laugh, but also a good perspective on police in America.

I always feel like rolling my eyes when I read a quote from a lawyer or someone else in an article saying something like "I've never seen something like this before." Really? You're job is to deal with stuff like this every day and you've never seen anything like this before?

This is not the most egregious act of police brutality I've ever seen on video either unfortunately. I remember seeing the deacon of a local church get tased to death by the police very close to where I grew up.

Here is that video. You can see him die by 1:38 and he's dead for most of the video but it hasn't been taken off Youtube so it should be fine for the forum.

Guy should be fired. That was rough to watch. It really bugged me when the cops were swearing in front of his kids.

What I think happened here was the cop profiled him and assumed he was a criminal so he decided to give him a hard time.

Police are necessary, obviously, but I never take it for granted that they're on my side. They're more often than not decent, though, because this is a first world country. I usually give them the benefit of the doubt today.

If our national situation continues to go south, though, sadistic cops (and videos like this) will probably become the norm, as they just become another gang in Weimar America.

The first professional police force wasn't introduced until the mid 1800s by Prime Minister Robert Peel - ergo the nickname "Bobbies". We seemed to get along perfectly fine before that without cops.
