My experience is probably unique, but in the small, rural area I went to grades 3-12 in (moved from the city mid-3rd grade) the most common age gap between "immediate" siblings was around 2 years. My elementary/middle school practiced "looping", where kids had the same main teacher ("advisor" in MS) for 2 years in a row (1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th/6th grades). This was highly encouraged among parents, so most/all the kids in a family could have the "same" teachers and pass down wisdom about them to their younger siblings.

it turned out well enough for me tbh. the MS teachers taught both 7th graders and 8th graders at the same time (just switching day-to-day), which was fun. I only had one bad teacher in this whole thing, my 3rd/4th grade teacher, an ancient cunt who told my parents that I should get psych help and take Ritalin because I acted autistic fairly often. (This stemmed mostly from one time where we had to write a short fiction story, and I basically copied one of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes' gruesome pretend-play stories word-for-word.)
