Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen, Dead at 65

The non-Hodgkins lymphoma that had returned two weeks ago after being treated finally took his life today. Huge loss for the history of the tech world as we know it today, as well as his philanthropy beneficiaries and the Seattle sports culture.

RIP in peace, Paul.

RIP Paul Allen. There is no doubt that he had a profound impact on technology & the world at large. Extremely intelligent man. Gone a bit too early unfortunately. Damn these diseases.

Damn he was so optimistic too, cancers a bitch, here is a man with all the money in the world and access to top health care, didn't matter

“I learned recently that the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that I was treated for in 2009 has returned. My team of doctors has begun treatment of the disease and I plan on fighting this aggressively.

“A lot has happened in medicine since I overcame this disease in 2009. My doctors are optimistic that I will see good results from the latest therapies, as am I.

“I will continue to stay involved with Vulcan, the Allen Institutes, the Seahawks and Trail Blazers, as I have in the past. I have confidence in the leadership teams to manage their ongoing operations during my treatment.

“I am very grateful for the support I’ve received from my family and friends. And I’ve appreciated the support of everyone on the teams and in the broader community in the past, and count on that support now as I fight this challenge.

“Go Seahawks! Go Blazers!”

Super rich people very very rarely die young. Must have been super aggressive.

Seemed like a good man on the whole. Terrible shame.

Don't shed too many tears for this guy. He gave tons of money try and abolish the 2nd Amendment. He was another out of touch pacific northwest leftist. His money will continue to be a negative impact, even in death.

That time that Bill Gates found out that Paul Allen had cancer and tried to effectively oust him from Microsoft.

Quote:Quote:

Allen, 58, says he overheard a heated conversation between Gates and now Chief Executive Steve Ballmer in December 1982, shortly after Allen told them he was thinking of leaving the company.

"It was easy to get the gist of the conversation," writes Allen in the memoir as reproduced in Vanity Fair. "They were bemoaning my recent lack of production and discussing how they might dilute my Microsoft equity by issuing options to themselves and other shareholders. It was clear that they'd been thinking about this for some time."

Allen, who at that time was receiving treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer, and was scaling back his work at Microsoft, says he later received apologies from both Gates and Ballmer over the incident.

Currently out of office.

No kids. Whats the point?

I hope his centers and charities do some actual good in his absence, but chances are they will fail the same way all wealthy estates fail.

Dude was rumored to be gay. I wonder if this was related to a long-term HIV/AIDS issue.

There was a conspiracy about almost every illness, that they have remedy for everything but they don't want to share with public because over-population is a big problem. I mean, this guy had all the money in the world but he died pretty young, Steve Jobs also died very young. So, I think medical world don't have remedy for everything.

Why are scumbags like Soros, Cheney and Mugabe etc still alive? I guess the good die young and the bad die slow and outlive everyone.

Don't debate me.

^ tons of cash for excellent medical treatment. I mean Cheney has looked like death for the past 20 years but he's still kicking.

Cancer is the great equalizer, though. No fucks given.

With all the money he had, he could have built a bionic body and implant his brain in it becoming Mecha-Allen. That's what I would do if I was billionaire.

Jobs might have been offed, he was a bit of a loose cannon who became very rich and powerful. Unlike other mega-billionaires, he had a lot of charisma and the potential to become highly influential.

I don't know why it hit me so hard when I heard this news. He has cancer at 30 years old. You never know what life will throw you. 65 is definitely too young to go, but I mean with a yacht like his, and the aerospace stuff he did, I'm sure it was a good 65 years.

He was always a flaming leftard though. this is exactly the kind of thing he'd have done if he had ever made the choice to permanently step away from Apple and have a true "retirement".
