Digital Marketing Consulting Question & Answer

What's up everyone!

I've been logging into the forum very sporadically over the past few months, as I was in work-mode, building a new business of mine; a digital marketing consultancy. I'm still going to monitor, and maintain my other thread - my 5/6 figure a month journal, but that is more for dropshipping, and my SaaS dabbling.

The reason I decided to make this a new thread is that it seems a lot of people are interested in running their own consultancy, and I wanted to give back.

Where I'm At

I want to be very transparent. I'm not like some of the guys making $100,000 a month with this business, but I am doing fairly well, considering I've only been doing this for 4-months.

I currently have 12 clients; 2 are paying me a 15% commission on each new client I bring in (the clients range from $500k-$1,000,000 consulting offers, so the commission is incredible). The other 10 clients are paying me a monthly retainer.

I could, theoretically, retire right now with this monthly income, and quit all of my other businesses, but I love the thrill of building businesses.

I've typically strayed away from consulting because I hate DFY (done-for-you), but as I've learned; when you build up a decent-sized client base, you can hire a team, and outsource most of the leg-work.

Right now, I'm focusing on sales, and my team worries about implementation. I don't want you to spend money on a course teaching you consulting, so hopefully this can help you.

This is an incredibly profitable, easy to learn and easy to build business model.

I know a few guys on the forum who do the same sorta deal; so maybe they'll chime in.

I was going to make this a datasheet, but it would only cover niche selection and finding clients (which is not much for an entire datasheet), so if you have any questions about running an online marketing consultancy, let me know, and I'll answer them.

That's the one issue I haven't been able to really figure out yet with my specific sort of client/industry I'm in.

I can track leads - but not conversion. I sort of have to rely on the clients ethics when I do commission deals.

Thankfully, the industry I'm in is very professional by its nature.

Digital Marketing Consulting Question & Answer

What kind of services do you offer specifically in terms of Digital Marketing? Digital Marketing is a pretty broad field, it can involve social media marketing/content creation, SEO, SEA, content marketing etc. ..

And how do you get your clients? How did you build up your client base?

What I offer may be different than what you offer, but here is the general idea of what my company does:

- Social media marketing (Facebook/YouTube/Google)
- Sales Funnels (landing pages, conversion funnels, copywriting etc..)
- Automated Webinars (we write the webinars, set them up and integrate with the overall funnel)
- Email marketing

Since I only serve one niche, the above is the only offer that we have for prospective clients. It's high-ticket, but effective and encompasses everything.

We call it (for lack of a better name) - automated webinar marketing.

When I was starting out I did 100% organic outreach. My business partner and I call it 'operation organic assault'.

For this, I used LinkedIn + cold-emailing and, to a lesser degree, cold-calling.

After we built up our bank-roll and client base from this, we expanded into a webinar funnel. We've subsequently had to turn off the funnel, because it was booking too many consultations, and we simply can't onboard any new clients at the moment.

This is great. Thanks for sharing! It's something I'd like to do in the near future.

Did you already have a background in this industry before embarking on the outreach? I'm just wondering why these businesses trusted you with their online marketing. Guessing you had a bit of experience there.

Digital Marketing Consulting Question & Answer

Would you be willing to share your cold email and LinkedIn strategy in a PM.... also without giving away the niche you currently specialize in? How did you choose it? Did you have experience in that area before? Or did you simply just do some research? How would you recommend choosing a niche? If you had to start again from scratch what specifics could you give a newb on starting his own consulting business?

many thanks, WeekendCasanova for your contribution to make money threads!

What is the best way to integrate Automated Webinar to the Sales Funnel? Some ideas:

Facebook Ad ->Clickfunnels Email Form (Welcome Email, Invitation) -> Clickfunnels Free Webinar (Email with CTA to 1x1 Consultation) -> Paid 1x1 Consultation (Close)

Would that work?

I didn't have much in lead generation, but I had a lot of experience with Facebook advertising. I had to learn funnels, how to integrate everything, and improve my copywriting skills a bit.

But it's a big myth that people look to credentials. If your offer is good enough, and your market needs what you're offering (i.e you can help them get from their current situation to their desired situation), you'll be fine. I've had MAYBE 2 people ask for references. That's it.

The niche you pick is completely up to you, but should intersect with three areas; industries you know, skills you know or can learn, and industries you're interested in, but remember - you're not married to your niche. You can change whenever.

Niche selection is the biggest stumbling block, but it really doesn't have to be. The best advice I can give, is to pick a niche that is far from the truth/are doing something wrong in the way they're advertising or currently generating clients.

My funnel:

FB Advertisement - CF Opt-In (or webinarjam/everwebinar opt-in) - Indoctrination emails before the webinar - Webinar - Follow-up emails - free consultation.

But this depends on your industry, niche etc..automated webbys won't work for all niches.

I work in SaaS as an SDR, so I know alot about lead gen! When you talk about niche selection, are you targetting one man companies/firms? Like lawyers, doctors, real estate agents? Or bigger firms?

How do you create landing pages that convert? How do you create successful FB advertising? Can you share your email and LinkedIn messages templates? And your call scripts?
