Travelling through Europe by Bus

So I’ve come up with this idea short time ago as it would be a lot better to get to know several countries while being on a tight budget as travelling by plane is much costlier these days, for a week at least.
I’m thinking of cheep hostels or possibly couchsurfing too regarding spending the nights.
Anyone had experiences in this? And what about Gaming while being constantly on the move?
Is it an efficient way for meeting girls while also having fun and seeing new and different places?

I can’t share bus related info; hopefully, someone else has more experience in that area. But right now you might want to check out the Euro Rail pass. The global pass is 37% off for travel to 28 countries and the deal ends on June 4th. Bonus discount if you are 27 or younger.

Or just look up euro rail pass.

Buses will be a pain in the ass.. Literally. Once took one from Switzerland to Poland (24hrs) and it was a nightmare, not even one attractive woman on the bus and very uncomfortable. Often times Ryanair will be just a bit more expensive than buses in some cities, e.g. I paid £10 return from Madrid to Toulouse in August.

If you really want to travel by bus for your wallet then check out eurolines. Trains in some countries will be at a good price and this is the best way to meet women whilst travelling. Do like saccade says and check out eurorail pass, it's a great idea.

I’ll check on Eurorail, thanks guys!
I previously tried FlixBus, very cheap but also slowww as fuck, I went once with it to Berlin, from NRW!

Buses are outstanding for close inter and intracity travel, though. I stayed in a southern French city last summer and it cost 1 euro to take a bus 45 minutes to the beach. 1 Euro, 1 way! They seem to be well worth it within a certain range.

If it's under 4 hours its great. I took one from Tallinn to Riga and it was brand new and very luxurious, nothing like buses in the US who are dirty and full of scumbags/obese people.

One piece of advise for you man: do the bus travel in the Balkans. It's such a unique experience, because of practical concerns here, everyone travels by bus here. Largely because of cost and poor infrastructure for railways. I touched slightly on it, on the Project Belgrade thread, and also the Skopje/Stip thread (both in my signature).

It's unique as hell, and cheaper than the train. I've done up to 24 hours on the bus, it can be fun if you come into it with the right mindset.

Agree 100%. In the Balkans, it is much quicker to travel by bus than rail as the roads are a lot better than the rail network which by and large has been starved of investment. That said, I have travelled by rail in Serbia and Bulgaria and although slower than the road, you can't beat the train. It maybe slower and cheaper than the bus but you will enjoy the journey more.

Flixbus is pretty cheap and have hubs all over. Even for 12h trips I usually paid 30-40 euros.

Not sure if that's what you meant to say, but if you have only one week to travel hopping on buses daily is not a good choice. Too much time commuting vs. time spent wherever you head to. If that's your time frame, either suck it and take a low cost flight, or pick just one town. Bouncing around will be very inefficient.

Gaming wise - I've stumbled upon many cute girls while travelling around by bus in Europe, but most of them were on buses heading to big University cities.

I'm also looking at Flixbus. They have some direct trips between Vienna and Budapest.

I've used flixbus as they were super cheap and decent. I'd also look into taking trains as they aren't too much depending on where you are.

BlaBlaCar has its merits too (apart from disastrous brand name). Can be fast and inexpensive. So far, it has worked for me every single time.

I agree. I did the same when i travel around the Balkans. The buses are quite good and insanely cheap. I used euro lines for some of my travles in central europe and it was decent, but as some said before: slow.
Check their page to have a better idea of the prices and compare it to the trains.
