The whole point of driving a Prius is to say "I'm better than you." It's a virtue signal on wheels. Literally, because they were designed to be visually obtrusive so that the owners knew they were going to stand out as proper people.

There are, or were, some cities in the US which allowed Prius and other hybrid cars to avoid paying tolls in the HOV lanes during rush hour. Washington DC ended it a year or so ago. So, not everyone bought one to virtue signal, but it depends on the city.
