Poll: If you could get rid of Smart Phones or Social media which one?

As mentioned, I remember the days of MySpace, Friendster, early Facebook, back when there either no smartphones, or the iPhone was new, very expensive (no monthly payments) and very few people owned one.

You checked social media on occasion, but that was about it. There was no Fear of Missing Out. It didn't consume anyone's life aside from FB's staff and Zuckerborg himself. Smartphones have made people far more anti-social than social media could ever hope to.

It's true enough that even ugmos and fatties sidestep social media and just play candy crush for hours instead. Personally I like having access to a smart phone to be able to check news, find locations and phone numbers of businesses, attend to bills and banking etc.

The guys hating on smart phones are making better points than I'd anticipated but personally I'm still not convinced. Even when social media was still just text and shitty questionnaires it still manifested thotdom and white knightery in extremis for anyone that got involved. The very second bitches started getting adoration without the danger of confrontation the beginning of the end was heralded.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

Smartphones. I've gained a lot from using them, but it's also been a crutch for me too. I can feel that I depend on my phone more than my personal judgment. For example, since I know I can use a GPS, I haven't really been able to develop a way for myself to learn my way around a city.

I picked smartphones.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the text message.

Good thing carriers stopped subsidizing phones and now people have to finance them or shell out whole for a new one....unless they want to sign up for one of those "40 bucks a week" financing plans in the ghetto where they end up paying 1800 for a 64GB iphone.

Now bitches will have to get creative on how to upgrade. Have seen a lot keep their old phones or rationalize why they have a cheap/old phone.

Game is the difference between a broke average looking dude in a 2nd tier city turning bad bitch feminists into maids and fucktoys and a well to do lawyer with 50x the dough taking 3 dates to bang broads in philly.

That's news to me; I haven't been back to the US in 5 years.

Modern social media.

There's a world of difference between 2017 Facebook and even 2007 Facebook. As there's a significant difference between a 2017 iPhone and a 2007 iPhone. The long term cognitive and psychological impacts are unknown, but as it stands, it's already pretty clear that these are negative. Additionally, the benefits are marginal for the user. On the other hand, smartphones have provide a fairly concrete value, as far as maps, cameras, emergency rescue devices, etc.

An interesting read and talk from and old facebook exec about SocMed

Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral
