Love Letter to America

TLDR

Former KGB guy wrote an interesting booklet that discusses the social and political implications of widespread permeation of Marxist ideology, which is linked at the bottom. Interested to know if anyone has read it, opinions, general discussion, etc.

Love Letter to America is a booklet published in 1984 (heh) by former KGB operative Yuri Bezmenov under the alias Tomas Schuman. Bezmenov details the tactics, methods, and activities of various organs of the Soviet government which are meant to demoralize, destabilize, and ultimately ideologically conquer a so-called "open society" and replace it with a "closed" Marxist-Leninist society. Essentially these ideas are embodied to a near T in modern SJW groups and are expected to be followed by the rise of more extreme incarnations of alternatively right and left focused organizations until the inevitable "normalization" process, which is marked by the emergence of the truly oppressive and restricted society.

The influence tactics used by USSR intelligence were widespread and worldwide. According to Bezmenov, they also successfully took root in American society throughout education, union labor, and entertainment organizations and effectively demoralized and destabilized Cold War Era America. Internal movements decrying America as an intolerant, oppressive, and imperialist monolith were aided to success in no small part, he claims, thanks to men like himself and other Soviet actors he mentions by name. He cites examples of such organizations throughout the piece.

The man died in 1993 under mysterious circumstances, so he is unable to comment on modern America, itself still rife with similar organizations and simplistic mindsets, but today America is no longer engaged in the ideological struggle against Communism and that battle is turning inward. In the absence of a Soviet style conquering opponent, what does such instability mean for global hegemony?

Bezmenov's writing style is a little bizarre and he is constantly capitalizing words to emphasize them, but the booklet is interesting as hell to read. I sat down and read it in one sitting. The material is absolutely fascinating because the kinds of ideological subversion he describes are certainly at play in modern America, and frankly the world over. Some of the big ones:

-Make sure universities become utterly egalitarian thought process and opinion factories where all counter-revolutionary activity is resisted or met with violence. Check.
-Make sure all religion is commercialized and becomes completely disconnected from the source material. Check.
-Make sure worker collectivism is strong enough to allow such travesties as nurses going on strike, leaving dying patients in need, for 40 more cents an hour. Check.

He details tons of such examples, and himself is an absolutely fascinating figure. He is fluent in Hindu and Urdu, serving his country mostly in India until defecting to Canada and ultimately ending up in America. I'll link a url of the pdf below, but there is some real truth to what he writes and it paints a fairly grim picture for America's future if he's correct. Many of the tropes he points to in the book are absolutely present in modern day society, American, Russian, Chinese, European. They're really all over the place now, like a giant virus that was unleashed on the world, like mass worldwide demoralization ala Mouse Utopia leading to ultimate collapse. Not to be all doomsday-y but it really doesn't spell out a super bright future if this kind of ideology remains present in the public conscience as strongly as it currently is.

I think the modern reader can see where Bezmenov is certainly a product of an era engaged in a worldwide struggle between Soviet Communism and American Capitalism that has clearly passed, but the underlying message that describes the mentality of the "demoralized" actor is just uncanny. This is a person who holds egalitarianism as the ultimate ideal, regardless of any level of evidence contrary to its propriety. He's also spot on when he talks about the utter separation of a religion from its source materials which I think is certainly reflected in modern society's religious institutions. Here, I'm thinking of the mega churches of America, the entire Western World's obsession with "Not Real Islam TM," the Roman Catholic Church, which is quite a far cry from the church of just four decades ago when the book was written.

He further describes the criminal nihilism that I think is readily apparent as America has its mass shootings, and China its mass stabbings. I think the main thing to take from the book is the ability to identify the type of person he describes, and the messages that they promote. He talks about the promotion of "non-issues" like homosexual marriage etc, that have no real relevance to the masses but are pressed on everyone and used to identify badthink-ers. Just really a spot on piece in so many ways.
