So Rio Scenarium is where its at? I was there outside, but like someone said before, it looked like I wouldnt get in for hour and hours due to the line. Probably the longest line I've seen at any club anywhere. Didnt look like alot of singles were in line, so we moved on. Maybe I'll give it a shot this weekend though, the girls did look stunning.

What's a good spot for Tuesday nights? I'm leaning toward Conversa Fiada (on Rua Farme de Amoeba in Ipanema), it wasn't bad last week.

Kinda wondering myself. how expensive is that place? I think the area around Namaste is good any night. Isn't Rua Farme de Amoeba a little homo. Is this Conversa joint a bar or a street party. I might head out down there

Hey there guys, I found out this website a few days ago, my name is Arthur, I am a Brazilian and I was born in Niteroi-Rio de Janeiro. I would say I'm average in PU ability, I would like to turn that into excellent though if any of you guys (who are good or excellent in PU) wanna hang out with a local send me a message, in return you won't have to worry as much with the Portuguese thing (cuz I'll be around) , nor will you have to worry about the violence thing (gringos are usually an easy target cuz they simply don't know where's safe and where it isn't, they are an easy target, I've lived here for 20 years and have never been a victim of violence), anyways, my msn is [email protected] , feel free to add me!

Just landed in Rio

Witnessed a pretty funny scene last night (my first night in Rio on this trip).

By the time I got in and checked in it was already gone midnight and I was tired. Decided on just a quick wander around Ipanema and a quiet drink before much needed sleep.

Went to a few bars. Pretty dead Weds night. Just a few people. No hot girls.

Was thinking of calling it at night at 2am when most places were closing. Walked back towards the hostal when I saw a decent sized crowd down a side street hanging outside a bar so I joined them. Bumped into a few fellow English guys and ended up chatting to them.

One of them was with his GF and the other guy was a 6 foot 2 ex-british army guy and built like it. Good looking guy. Anyway, one semi-decent looking local girl basically just stared and him relentlessly for an hour in a non too suble way but he wasn't interested in her.

The only other decent looking girl in the bar was a hot mulatta chick who looked about 30, false tits but absolutely dressed to kill in a wanna-be-beyonce kind of way but she had the figure for it. She was desperately trying to make eye contact with him, kept looking over and winking etc

I had her down as part of the pay for play scene and I was right. She did not speak English so she got one of the Brazilian guys in the bar to translate, she just walked up to him to ask if he wanted to go to a motel with her. Pretty direct huh?

No prior convo, no gaming. Just straight out offered.

He got the translator to ask her if it was just for fun or was she working. She said for fun but maybe he could give her a "little present".

He was not down for pay for play so he got the translator to tell her the only money he had was for HALF of the motel and IF she had the other half then they could go and, if not then no.

She agreed. Off they went. LOL.

I don't know man. When it comes that easy there is a high chance of trouble. STDs, getting robbed, getting drugged and waking up with a missing kidney, etc.

When i was younger and dumber i used to wish easy pussy would come my way. Now, when it does, i question it.

Yeah, I agree. If a girl in Rio just came up to me and said straight out that she wanted to f*ck and let's go somewhere. I'd wonder if I was being set up for a robbery. I've heard stories about that happening in Argentina pretty frequently.

Just so you know, that's an urban legend that's been proven to be complete horseshit--it's never happened, not even once: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/robbery/kidney.asp

I read somewhere earlier to ask a girl to watch your stuff for you at the beach, great way to break the ice and show you know a little Portuguese. Just say `Pode olha para mim?´If the chick doesn´t speak English and you don´t know shit for Portuguese it might be hard from there. I´m just starting to get good enough at Portuguese to be able to keep decent convo if she doesn´t speak English. I honestly think it´s just as good if she doesn´t because even if you can´t understand everything, at least your showing you know a decent amount, which is more than most gringos can say.

I have noticed (as has elguapo) that if you say you are a foreigner but then start speaking Portuguese with a decent accent to a Brazilian chick she will assume that you are really Brazilian and that you are lying to her.

I met a cute Brazilian chick in Buenos Aires last Monday. I started speaking to her in Spanish and then English when she did not understand that. When she told me she was Brazilian I asked her (in Portuguese) which town she was from and she immediately accused me of being Brazilian and just pretending to be English, became very suspicious and clammed up.

Kinda weird because I only said a few words and, as anyone who has met me can testify, I definitely look like a gringo. Oh well.

TIP : Speak Portuguese with your native accent to avoid this shit.

Good handy line there. Can someone verify the phonetic pronunciation of that line for me? Is it:
pozhe olya pada meem? Or is the first word more like po-day?

pronounced: Podje olya para meem?

also

Pode prestar atenção?
is what a chick asked me when I was on the beach.

That ção thing I think I need to hear more. Sometimes I hear Brazilians say São Paulo but it sounds like they're saying San Paulo. But the "San" is kinda nasally. And I think it's said non nasally if it's çao as opposed to ção. Portuguese is interesting.

The letter ã is a nasal 'a'. Like macã = apple.

Yeah nasal takes time to develop. It's a cool sound.

You have to be in Brazil in order to keep hearing it, and to develop it.

That´s happened to me sooooo many times already. You have to take your passport. It happened probably twice last night. I found a club though last night, and my pick up line could have been, I´m gringo, kiss me. Chicks were loving me in there and they all spoke english. I´ll have to find the name of the club and let ya´ll know. It´s by Apuador.

They´re definitely around. I´ve found a bunch. I think you just have to aproach a lot. A lot of rich girls speak english, and there are a lot of rich girls at the clubs. The only things that sucks about this is rich girls can suck ass. But I think the rich girls in Brazil are better then the rich girls in America, which I guess you can say about any kind of girl here.

Yup happened to me too last week. I can say initial/basic words with a decent accent, but in conversation my gringo status becomes obvious.
