Opening a Restaurant in Vancouver

Open in White Rock and you will die quickly during the off season.

New West or Port Moody would be my choice, small cities with "identities" and an emerging yuppie class. Both don't fall victim to cannibalization by car, and both don't face the high rent issue of Vancouver. New West would be easier to find a suitable location.
Many ethnic restaurants kill here but they save a lot of money on labour by running a tight family operation.

The higher income spots in the suburbs and you face off against a ton of chain restaurants that the suburban families love.
This is especially the case in South Surrey and Langley.

You are 100% going to need a liquor license to be successful outside of lunch hours. These licenses prop up many establishments, and help inflate their values.

My 2cents, family has been in the restaurant business in Vancouver (city proper), I've heard too many stories of David Aisenstat running SIMP game at different places downtown.

I second New West.

Outside of Gastown its my favorite city here. It reminds me of Gastown actually, without all the death and murder ha.

When the real estate market softens I want to get another condo there. I have the building already lined up, just waiting for the right time.

Plus there is a strip club there that is decent.
