Since I've had a couple requests, I'll share that story in a new thread.

Did you feel any side effects you'd ascribe to Mefloquine?

I got a little nauseous once because I took a pill without food. Other than that, I didn't have any problems. Just make sure you eat before you take it.

Its got a black box warning for psychiatric side effects. Malaria is no joke especially in PNG but the meds aren't healthy either. Malaria is why I never went there despite doing some work with their govt. How long were you on it?

With the before, during, and after pills, a total of 8 pills. That's 8 weeks worth. I've been called crazy for the places I go, but I had no psychiatric side effects. I understand the concern, it does have potential for a lot of side effects. I suppose that's the nature of the beast, risk taking it, or going without it.

Don't get discouraged by all these negative comments. I have been travelling the world (68 countries and counting). I myself go to all corners of the world and more often than not end up in the deep woods of some place and there she is, waiting for me (or whoever else would be coming along) but it was just me.

It's fun this kind of travelling, keep going and tell your stories.

I'm sorry... just... first we had a North Korean thread... and now PNG... what's next? Deep Congo?

Actually, going to Kisangani is on my list.
