Can't Decide How Many Countries To Travel To
07-30-2017, 12:22 AM
I have enough money to travel every country in the world and all 50 states of America
but i don't know where to draw the line on choosing where and how many countries I should travel to. Next year I start traveling.
Should I just travel to the places with the most to see, or should I travel to every corner of the world.
The reason I want to travel every corner of the world is for the tittle of world traveler and as an accomplishment.
I think I should view this issue on a return on investment point of view and only travel to areas which are highly regarded as worth seeing and not countries like Somalia and other places with nothing to see.
I want to travel to at least 100 countries.
The bottom line is should I travel because of numbers and titles or should i travel for enjoyment and passion.
How do you guys view this and what would you do if you were in my shoes?

Traveling sucks. Move around a bit, find a place you like, and then settle down for a few months. That is the only way going abroad will cause real personal growth, which should be your motive instead of some quest to be a "world traveler" who never learned a language og immersed in a culture.

If i where you, i'd travel only to the places you really want to go to. Make a list, bucket list along those lines of the things of where you really wanna go, things to do and places that really appeal to you. I wouldn't advise to do it just to be able to show off to other people that you have been to all these places, having said that i'd leave myself open to going to places that are different also because some places may surprise you. I find it funny when people like to brag and say, i went to this place and that place and then i ask how long they where there for and they normally say two to three days. If you really wanna get a good feel for a place and it's culture you need to stay in places longer. I might have been lucky but my two favourite countries i've been to are the ones i've stayed the longest at (Vietnam and Colombia).

EE and SEA are where you should start. You're going to need to travel to many places to see what is the best fit for you. Reading on the forum will only give you an idea, every person is different as far as their tastes and looks/status so no places is going to be 100% accurate to what you read about it. A good start is to just pick a good direct flight from wherever you are and travel to another country nearby that has a good direct flight (or sometimes bus/train is faster). The last thing you want to do is waste a ton of your time traveling doing layovers in the airport. I have done about 30 flights in the last year and only had to book one that wasnt direct. South America is shit for flights but EE and SEA you can get inexpensive direct flights from pretty much anywhere. The more flexible you are the better off you are. I recommend staying in places at least a week, otherwise you're just getting settled when it's time to leave.

Every year I travel for at least 6 months. I just choice a couple countries I really want to visit and go from there. When I get sick of one country I go to another that's close by then the next neighbour, etc... I don't know where I end up which is what an adventure and being free is all about!

This is a very important question OP, and it's indicative of your seriousness and research that you're seeking these answers.
The official title of World Traveler, as you know, is quite prestigious and worth chasing.
I want to correct something, and give you a warning though: do not dismiss places like Somalia etc. The Committee does in fact take only pure numbers into account. Lets be honest- you are starting at the bottom and need to hit all the locations you can. You need to burn through as many airports as possible next year, I don't care if you have to board an airplane in the notorious Djibouti sandstorms while actively having Diarrhea. You get on that flight and cross off the next box. Forget "passion" and "interesting places". Those silly things do not qualify you for titles.
Check back in next year and I will give you some tips when applying for the title. That in itself is a whole other process and frankly a lot of guys trip up at that point making it all for not.
I'm quite busy at the moment but my buddy Suits has agreed to answer more specific questions about this via PM anytime if you need help.
