The litmus test for this move is simple. Would you still support it if carried out by a left government? Good heavens no.

This is a power grab and a step away from democracy. Trying to make it about the EU is missing the point entirely.

The EU is the leftist government trying to do this -- and it's succeeded in any number of countries across the EU, which is rather why Brexit happened and why Poland is resisting, Warsaw Ghetto style.

Jesus Christ, guys, the US was founded on the very idea of strong local governments and a weak Federal government, does this not make sense?

The US was found on the very idea of strong but limited federal government. Since it is no longer limited, it is quite strong today.

The EU of today is kinda of weak like the articles of confederation but they are now heading in the direction towards a stronger government.

Poland should stick up for itself and then start building a military.

Polish president steps in to veto new law that would allow the government to choose judges after huge protests and threats from EU

- President Andrzej Duda will veto two controversial laws passed by parliament
- They would have allowed to justice minister to appoint supreme court judges
- Another would give MPs control over who sits on the National Judiciary Council
- Comes after days of protests in Poland against the controversial new proposals
- Poland had been threatened with sanctions by the European Commission

Poland's president will block a law that would allow the country's government to appoint supreme court judges of its choosing.

President Andrzej Duda announced he will veto two controversial new laws that were passed by the Polish parliament.

The move comes after days of demonstrations across the country in retaliation three new judicial reforms.

Before they can become law, they require approval by the president.

'As president I don't feel this law would strengthen a sense of justice,' Mr Duda addressed the country in television broadcast.

'These laws must be amended.'

While President Duda vetoed two laws, he passed a third that allows the justice minister to name the head of Poland's lower courts.

Poland had been faced with sanctions imposed by the European Commission if the reforms were not scrapped.

Donald Tusk, the European Council President and a former Polish prime minister, warned of a 'black scenario that could ultimately lead to the marginalisation of Poland in Europe'.

Poland's right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) government — of which President Duda is a former member — strongly refuted allegations that the reforms would move towards authoritarian rule.

It added that it was disappointed with President Duda's veto, who last week stepped in to find a compromise.

It proposed that the government's bid to push through its nominees for the National Judiciary Council be watered down, by requiring the support of another party.

He also opposed the proposed strengthened role of the Justice Minister who, in Poland, also serves as the attorney general.

The president also spoke with his adviser Zofia Romaszewska, a dissident from the country's communist era who was jailed during ears of martial law.

She advised the president not to return to the days when 'the general prosecutor could do virtually anything', and told the media it was out of the question for the attorney general to take charge of the Supreme Court.

The country's opposition MPs welcomed the role of protesters in influencing the president's decision.

Protests and demonstrations had erupted throughout Poland's cities, including Poznan, Lublin, Krakow, Gdansk and Warsaw.

If these are the bully-boy tactics the EU was willing to leverage in public against a member state simply re-arranging it's judicial system (gee, I wonder why they care so much) then one has to wonder what kind of next-level thuggery was going on behind the scenes.

Hopefully the commie pro-EU judges will find the wrong end of a noose and wish they'd been able to retire in relative dignity.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

Duda backing down on the laws wasn't too surprising. PiS isn't as strong in Poland right now as Fidesz was in Hungary when Orbán was implementing his reforms 5-6 years ago. PiS only possesses a simple majority (itself a tall order in a proportional electoral system), while Fidesz held a supermajority.

Additionally, the Polish president is elected by the people, which gives him some nominal independence. In Hungary, the president is elected by the legislature, which given Fidesz's majority means that the president is little more than Fidesz's yes-man.

This isn't going to stop PiS, though. The opinions of Poles (and the eastern European E.U. countries in general) are anti-migrant, anti-communist, and anti-E.U. If Brussels is dumb enough to worsen relations with sanctions over the migrant issue, that will just galvanize support for PiS (or, if they cuck out, it'll just fuel the rise of another right-wing party). Even the Czech government, which is left-wing, is against migrants and the E.U.

The E.U. isn't going to last another ten years. Only question now is which country will be the next to go.

You have no f'n clue. Clearly you've been fed well by the globalist media. It's fully constitutional. The EU are the ones making it about a power grab - completely the other way. Polish judicial system is rigged by the soros-sponsored, post-communist, pro-german, anti-citizen, parasitic scum. People in this country have no faith in courts and there's a good reason for it. This step has to be taken if Poland is going to be a fully sovereign nation. The protests on the streets reak of soros. Otwarty Dialog foundation is nothing but his apparatus. EU jumps on the bandwagon cause they have the same interest. If you asked me I would've sorted this mess Pinochet style.

What is the opinion on the ground about PiS? If I were to poll a hundred random people at a grocery store what do you suspect they would say?

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

I think before this Soros-funded shitstorm, the support was solid for reelection. It is still according to polls the same way.

It takes a few more terrorist attacks for the people to vote PIS again, because the globalist puppets want to flood the country with Muslims anyway. That particular point has 80% approval in the population.

Most of the people approve of the fact that since PiS started to govern the country Polish economy started to rise remarkably, there is something like 7% unemployment, budget is finally above zero, there's been a lot of helpful reforms implemented, holes in VAT system have been removed which yielded massive results in budget income, selling of the government owned businesses stopped dead (previous governing party in 8 years sold 60 billion worth of companies to privateers, mostly grossly below the real value), people feel the good change and they feel their living situations improved. Poland stopped to be a theoretical country and started to exist again. It started to protect it's own interest again. Silent majority approves of PiS actions, at least most of the time. Silent because PO-PSL propaganda from the past 10 years gave PiS so much black PR that people tend not to openly show their support for the leading party. It's simply uncool to support PiS. During the whole court system reform shitstorm PiS didn't lose support, in fact it gained some.

I'm not sure what happened to the president, citizens expected him to sign the court reforms but he vetoed. I don't know but an hour long telephone conversation between him and Macron leads me to suspect he might have been swayed by the Soros commando.

I don't 100% approve of the actions and the way that PiS is handling things but it basically boils down to one matter - whoever keeps the islamic hordes out of Poland is going to rule and the opposition proved time and time again that they would happily oblige (of course they would, after all they are pro-globalist, Soros-funded scum that hates poles, polish patriots and anything this country stands for). I think that 35-30% of people living in this country, although they may have been born here and speak Polish language, are not poles. I look at the opposition, their loyalty is in Brussels and Berlin, their last names are of German origin, THEY ARE NOT POLES! They despise anything patriotic and genuinely Polish, they think of themselves as Europeans, not Poles. Say anything you want about PiS but these people are at least Poles. Actually, come to think of it, this is the first time since WWII that Poland is being ruled by a majority of Poles.

This constant globalist/Soros/EU verbal diarrhea wailing seems to be the go to response for anyone lacking an actual argument. Constantly trying to use this as an explanation is the equivalent of Intellectual sloth.

The actual topic is now somewhat moot as the main rulings have passed but I guess that's why you are having this break down.
Still I see everyone dodging the question. Again, would you support this if it was proposed by a leftist government? It really isn't much more complex than that.

No, because leftist governments openly hate their people and have proven that they can't be trusted with power.

If you lived here and observed who and how is attacking Poland, who local politicians are connected to and have been for the past 30 years, who has interest to weaken Poland and it's economy you would see what's going on clear as day. I don't even need to get into detail and point many people out because a kid knows what's up. One little fact to get you started: rght after the fall of communism Soros and his globalist bunch (Balcerowicz and others) set up the Polish economy the way he wanted making the country a colony and it's people a cheap workforce. He never stopped interfering and screwing Poland up.

The verbal diarrhea of CNN and co sounds much better, but I guess your stuff is as logical as they come.
