George Romero Dies

George Romero dies at 77. He was famous for Dawn of the Dead, my favorite zombie movie off all time, Creep show and Monkey Shines. He is also famous for wearing huge square glasses.

The full movie is on youtube but half the resolution of the DVD.

Damn, another horror legend gone. He was the godfather of zombie movies.

I remember in the early 2000's, I hadn't yet seen Dawn of the Dead, and the only way to get hold of it at that time was to buy the dvd off amazon. The best version, and still the best to this day in my opinion, was the U.S. theatrical release. There were only a handful of copies on Ebay, and they were going for around $50. I forked out $45, waited anxiously about a week, and then had one of the best horror movie experiences of my life.

Worth every penny.
Rest in peace Romero!

He had lung cancer. While I always felt the Return of the Living Dead series was better he was a still a forerunner of the horror genre.

The "Elm Street" and "Dawn of the Dead" reboots, both which had wooden acting, shit pacing, and 0 tension/suspense showed me that the genre, my favorite, has been dead for at least 15 years. Memento mori, RIP Mr. Romero.

A guy like Romero should have left instructions for a wicked funeral. Something along the lines of his casket bursting open and his body sitting up using some kind of animitronics.

Rest In Peace.

Mr. Romero passing on is unfortunate for us fans who enjoyed his work thru the decades, but he'll always be remembered for creating a entire genre. Much like the Superhero genre, the modern day zombie genre arguably started with Romero's Night of the Living Dead, and that popularized influential interpretation of "zombies" continues to this day thru films, and tv series.

A master of his craft, and a pioneer in my favorite genre.
