Ksbms goes to the gym to pick up some heavy objects and reports back

Ah, fuck it, might do mine as well.

I'm going to pick up some heavy objects. Predominantly, barebell with plates but if opportunity presents itself, objects with long hair, tits and ass too! Will report and update back.

Routine: Base: Riptoe's Starting strength. A mixture of free weight, body weight and olympic style moves: clean & jerk / snatch.

Bodymass: ~ 67kg / 147lbs

Aiming for an evening Monday session.

Quite quiet, but went early on so there was not much else to do but to actually pump iron. Truth be told, there was one girl, but it was across the room, there were other people and she seemed very focus.

Squat: 3 x 5 x 85kg, topped with testing sub max rep up to 110kg (max rep 140kg, equivalent to 2xBW)
Standing press: 3 x 5 x 40kg
Dips: 3 x 10 x BW + 10kg
Chin ups: 1 x 5 x BW + 7.5kg
Some leg raises, lateral crunches, push ups on medicine balls, plank and other shit.

Hey man, are you just starting out in lifting? Or you've been lifting and you decided to start this thread?

I've been on and off. Was off for many months, so reignited both my guns and started the thread.

Done a few sessions, steady, linear progress but I go there every 3-4 days. I know by now my body recovers slowly and going every 2 days pointless. Sometimes I do much better after 5 days of rest. Strange, but that's how this supercompensation seems to work for me. So, last stats:

Squat: 3 x 5 x 92.5kg, topped with testing sub max rep up to 115kg (max rep ever 140kg, equivalent to 2xBW)
Standing press: 3 x 5 x 45kg
Push jerk: 3 x 2 x 52.5kg
Clean & push jerk: 55kg
Dips: 1 x 11 / 1 x 10 / 1 x 9 / x BW + 20kg
Chin ups: 1 x 4 / 1 x 3 / 1 x 2 / x BW + 10kg
Lateral crunches with 20kg plate, push ups with medicine balls, crunches with 10kg medicine ball, other shit.

There were two very fit girls in the same room, but I was on the matts, one girl was using rowing machine, then a guy sat next to her doing the same thing (there are only 2 of the machines next to each other in that section). The other sexy girl with all tight top and bottoms with exposed waist (heh!) was cycling with her headphones on. Face ok but nothing to write about but the body as good as it can get. And she knew it. I was tired as fuck anyway but noted the time and day they were there, so hopefully one day it will be possible for me to open. I even have an ideal opener in my mind...

Skipped the gym for a week and it shows, no progression in some of the exercises, though I haven't posted the last few sessions I think. Decided to slow down with squats as my quads grow too much and wouldn't fit into my trousers soon. No point in trying to show off how kick ass I can be squatting 2.x my body mass as there's always, always a bigger guy at the gym.

Haven't opened a single girl at the gym yet - all chicks seem to be focused on their exercises, don't look around, have headphones on or are in two. It's a tough nut to crack. Having said that, my current stats:

Squat: 3 x 3 x 100kg
Standing press: 2 x 6 x 45kg, 1 x 5 x 45kg / RP: 1 x 50kg.
Dips: 2 x 10 / 1 x 8 / x BW + 25kg.
Chin ups: 1 x 6 / 1 x 4 / 1 x 3 / x BW + 10kg.
Plus: 1-sided push ups with medicine balls, crunches back-to-front with 10kg medicine ball.

Had a break from the gym, back again. Talk to people but in no position to get any numbers.

Squat: 3 X 5 X 97.5kg.
Standing press: 3 x 5 x 43kg.
Dips: 3 x 10 x BW + 20kg.
Chin ups: 3 x 4 x BW + 10kg.

Ksbms goes to the gym to pick up some heavy objects and reports back

Just back from the gym (8pm local time).

The quality of girls today was insane (a bit of an euphemism, nothing like in Kiev on a rainy Tuesday, but for the capital of Scotland - hey, was something to look at!). Incidentally, the girl whom I approached from day game (nothing came out of it) was in the same room and she couldn't resist giving me a few looks. They always LOOK. Had a short conversation with another girl - I think it's supereasy to open but the problem is talking friendly shit isn't going to take you far?

Had a great session, surprised myself that after good but not overly calorific breakfast, and light lunch only I was able to progress in all exercises and spend in a gym ~ 2.5h. I think my body's got great capacity to quickly switch into burning ketones.

Squat: 1 X 3 X 102.5kg, 1 X 3 X 105kg, 1 X 3 X 107.5kg

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 47kg (+ 1 extra 47kg bonus)

Squat Jerk, progressively: 55kg, 57.5kg, 60kg, 62.5kg

Dips: 3 x 10 x BW + 30kg, 3 x 7 x BW + 30kg, 3 x 6 x BW + 30kg, "afterburn" - a few BW + 15kg, and to finish it off 10 x BW.

Chin ups: 3 x BW + 15kg, 4 x BW + 10kg, 3 x BW + 5kg, 3 x BW.

Body weight increased to bang on 70.0kg.

Was ill so skipped the gym for over a week. Had a pre-work concoction for the first time: BCAA + Beta Alanine + Citrulline + Creatine. Despite laying off gym session for over a week, progressed in all key exercises. Quite a few girls kicking around, but no good situation to strike up a chat.

Squat: 3 x 5 (plus one bonus) 107.5kg

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 48.5kg (plus one bonus)

Dips: 3 x 10 x BW + 30kg (plus one bonus)

Chin ups: 1 x 10 BW (Strained my upper shoulders at the beginning of the sessions so decided no to go full on this one).

Body weight up to 70.4kg.

Ksbms goes to the gym to pick up some heavy objects and reports back

Got too excited at my last December session, was squatting - pushed the barbell with a working load too high up the spine and didn't push the chest out to the maximum - then going up heard a pop in my cervical spine area and, in effect, developed an injury. Probably tore some ligaments on both sides of one of the top vertebrae. And silly enough, persisted to go through the whole session.

Minor thing, yet enough pain to make me give it a long, good rest to let the damn thing heal up. Two months almost. Was back at the gym yesterday, took it very cautiously and easy, did a successful session, no pain in the injured area, just a bit of itchy feeling whilst squatting. Was pretty busy, didn't talk to any girl really, was much focused on myself to keep excellent form and self-monitor.

A healthy dose of warming up exercises, including spinning mach, very light barbell stretching exercises, assortment of challenging push ups, etc.

Squat: 3 x 6 x 90kg

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 40kg

Dips: 3 x 10 x BW

Chin ups: Dips: 3 x 7 & 1 x 5 x BW

2h all in all.

Body weight probably down a bit, will get on a scale next time.

I haven't benched for ages but I tried today...

Squat: 3 x 5 x 92.5kg

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 42kg

Bench: 2 x 6 & 1 X 8 x 60kg

Some chin ups & dips

The injury seemed to heal well enough to let me go with some 85% power, see how it goes...

A touch of progress, felt meh but persevered...

Squat: 1 x 6, 1 x 6, 1 x 5 x 95kg

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 45kg (+ 1 extra rep)

Bench: 3 x 5 x 62.5kg

Some chin ups, some dips, some crunches, some push ups.

Some more progress, felt ok, citrulline and creatine for a boost.

Squat: 3 x 3 x 100kg (1 extra rep)

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 46kg (+ 2 extra reps), 1 x 48kg, 1 x 50kg

Push Jerk 3 x 1 x 48kg, 2 x 1 x 50kg

Bench: Had some pain in left deltoid so skipped that

Chin ups 3 x 12 x BW

Healthy assortment of chin ups, kettleball swings, various crunches too.

Few girls kicking around, nothing happened game-wise.

Ksbms goes to the gym to pick up some heavy objects and reports back

Had an excellent afternoon session at the gym, despite eating only light breakfast. I think I'm a genetic freak by how efficiently my body switches to burning fat (though I have almost none). Downed citrulline, bcaa and creatine which gave me awesome pump.

Squat: 3 x 3 x 102.5kg (Could do more but don't want to overgrow my quads)

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 48kg

Clean & jerk (Chinese style): 55kg progressively to 67.5kg with with 2.5kg increment. Failed 70kg attempt

Dips 3 x 12 x BW + 10kg

Chin ups 3 x 5 x BW + 10kg

Healthy assortment kettleball swings, some crunches, some push ups.

I want to learn how to snatch. Can squat with an empty overhead barbell but it's a really complex movement. It looks easy but requires perfect technique to lift anything near a person's body weight.

Saw a few sexy girls but the the set up of different rooms gives or takes aways any reasonable opportunities.

The street has no memory, the gym on the contrary. You need to get a bit of luck that the right girl will be in vicinity, thus nothing happened game-wise but I've made some logistical observation. From now on, for a warm up and cool down will be going to TRX room. it's 1/6 of a size of the main exercise one, thus physically everyone is closer to each other. It is also quieter, less busy, thus easier to start a convo. See how it goes...

Progressed on all exercises.

Standing press: 3 x 5 x 50kg, 1 x 55kg

Dips 3 x 10 x BW + 15kg

Chin ups 1 x 4, 2 x 3 x BW + 15kg, 1 x 4 X BW + 10kg

Back at the gym after 2.5 weeks. Still a bit weak. Went to warm up in the small TRX room. A blonde got there and tucked herself into a corner opposite me. Saw her some days ago in Tesco. Definitely British, nice legs, tall, though should've had more hips and shorter chest section. Still would bang as was the most attractive girl I've seen at the gym in 2 hours time, low 7.

Squat: 3 x 3 x 110kg

Standing press: 1 x 3 x + (1 X 2 push jerk) x 50kg, 2 x 3 X 45kg

Dips 3 x 11 x BW

Chin ups 1 x 10, 1 x 8, 1 x 6 x BW

Finished very tired. Illness + 2.5 weeks break = inevitable regress.

Start working on overhead squats. If you are only able to overhead squat an empty barbell you need to get stronger there. Once you getting better there start working on a snatch grip deadlift.

Snatching is such a complex movement that you should get a coach. Not sure where you live but it might be worth to join Crossfit gym which offers olympic lifting classes.

I do olympic lifting as part of Crossfit for about 14 months now and I am still only able to snatch 65kg (my body weight is 77 kg).

Good luck!

I've done a bit of clean & jerk which is easier, though there's some overlap. I can do ass to the grass squat with overhead barbell but, yeah, I probably need at least some guidelines. Usually at the gym there are always a few people snatching so should slowly get the whole movement going on. I'd like to clean & jerk 1.5x BW and snatch 1x BW. Just pure functional fitness, not going to impress anybody with that. I can see some guys training olympic weights day in, day out, 3-4 hours, it's like a full-time job with proper dieting, sleeping, etc.

This is true of all of the serious Weightlifters. Weightlifting (as a sport) training can be very boring and monotonous once newbie gains are out of the way and technique (which can easily take years to perfect) is honed. It is also tough on the joints and is much more tiring than one would think from watching someone do repeated singles and doubles of the same lifts. However, many guys love the sport and generally have demeanors closer to serious martial artists (as opposed to the cliché "Crossfit or die, brah!" or "The beach is that way!" attitudes that are common with other types of lifters) which I find to be much more appealing.

That being said, if you're brand new to the snatch and clean and jerk and REALLY want to get at least adept at them, don't try to teach yourself. You can do supplementary exercises to help improve these lifts (front squats, squats, good mornings, etc.) that aren't as technically difficult, but actually find a coach to at least show you the fundamentals. Not only will you improve MUCH faster with even irregular coaching, but, more importantly you'll prevent yourself from picking up bad habits that are VERY hard to correct. Ironically, since your lifts are still relatively at beginner levels (this isn't meant to be insulting) you will HAVE to develop good technique in order to hit these lifts (instead of relying on strength + poor technique) which will help immensely as you grow stronger.

As superschalk mentions above, you may want to check out a Crossfit for coaching in Weightlifting, but the quality is going to be VERY hit or miss. I've met Crossfit coaches who competed in Weightlifting for years before starting CF who were extremely legit and other CF Weightlifting "coaches" who could barely jerk 60 kgs (with awful technique at that). If you go this route, be sure to check out bios and to score some background information from potential coaches.

Ksbms goes to the gym to pick up some heavy objects and reports back

There was this gym staff girl today... Face average, but I liked her full and sporty ass, firm legs and good proportions. Oh boy... anyone hit on gym staff? Other than that, it was quiet.

Early on, I realised I was hungry. Well, went there late evening and had only moderate breakfast & lunch. Somewhat intermittent fasting appeals to me and there seems to be enough well documented, peer-reviewed research it's beneficial but before work out I need to shove in some 1000 cal more. Still, after the gym, haven't eaten any carbs, just protein. Hungry! So what I did:

Some warm up with pull ups on a ledger bar, frog stand, a few diamond push-ups, pistol squats, etc.

Squat: 3 x 3 x 115kg, 1 x 120, 1 x 122.5, 1x 125kg

Standing press: 1 x 4 x + (1 x push jerk) x 3 x 50kg

Some clean & jerk attempts.

Deadlift: 2 x 5 x 80, 1 x 2 x 90 kg, 1 x 100kg

Dips 3 x 11 x BW + 15kg

Chin ups 1 x 5 x BW, 1 x 3 x BW + 15 kg
