Is bread good for you?

Roosh made a video about making your own bread not so long ago where it got me thinking...

I always knew that white bread is very bad for you and supermarket bread as well but Bakery bread is better. Like Roosh said... bread is suppose to go off in 4 days, when I buy supermarket bread, it goes off in 1 month where they take out all the good stuff and put in all the toxic shit! I hear multi grain and wholemeal are the best options! The only thing is that these types of bread can contain Gluten that can upset your stomach and isn't good for you. I read somewhere that about 50% of the population have problems with digesting Gluten! I'm the same age as Roosh and I do notice when I have Pizza and some breads, it does upset my stomach a little since I hit 30.

I'm still doing a bit of research but most websites with articles on this topic are by fake news so I don't know what to believe!

Is there a bread guru out there?

It's been the staple European food source since forever. It's fine.

I despise all the "food X is bad for you" stuff. It's all contentious convoluted crap. "You should be eating Kale and Avocado smoothies!". OK great, how come none of my ancestors ate that shit?

So then they follow up with "correlation implies causation" logical fallacies like, "your ancestors also died younger!". So you then have to refute it by pointing out they also got murdered in their millions more frequently, they were poorer, medicine was inferior to now, and their food still had less artificial ingredients then now.

Basically the whole "food X is bad!" advocate brigade can bloody go away. My ancestors lived off bread, meat, beer, potatoes, and dairy, and I will too.

Personally, no. It bloats me and makes me puffy. Your mileage may vary as everyone is different and blanket statements of 'X is bad or good' on the internet are not particularly useful.

Try different diets and observe which you perform the best on. For me, it's low carb with plenty of green veg, eggs and meat. For my mate I lift with, it's pizza, chips, Fosters and a vial of Tren.

They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety- Benjamin Franklin, as if you didn't know...

I think this is a good idea for a thread. It gets very confusing as to which foods we should be avoiding, especially those who are lifting weights and exercising.

Worse than bread, or any other individual food, in my opinion, is how everything is processed and altered. I have no scientific basis for this opinion but I think that regular bread – just grains, yeast, water and so on- probably isn't so bad for you and it's the processed, chemical-infused crap that the store sells where we start to go wrong.

Over the past few months I started a simple diet of meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts, rice, and some dairy, with very limited carbs (occasional piece of toast for breakfast), trying to cook all of my food myself or at least exert some control over what goes into it. For those on a low-carb diet, that simple approach eliminates the bulk of your carbs because they mostly occur in processed, pre-packaged foods like snacks, chips, canned foods, and so on. There's sugar hidden in everything on the supermarket shelves, which is poisoning us. It's really hard to avoid unless you prepare as much food as you can for yourself.

Using this approach, combined with exercise, I lost 20 pounds, though it occurred over a long period of time (about 8 mos).

Of course, the drawback is that you have to spend a lot of time cooking. I'll usually prepare something on the weekends and then portion it out and freeze it down or refrigerate it for later use. I'll make a big pot of stew or soup or some other main dish and eat it throughout the week.

The only thing good about it is it that it allowed humans to scale. It's a way to take a crop you can get a lot of (wheat) and turn it into something edible.

It's not great otherwise, although delicious.

Like anything else, if you eat ten pounds of the stuff every day, it won't be good for you. Likewise if you eat it slathered with goopy caramel spread.

The only thing I've read about bread that is generally negative (other than the typical added-sugar issues) is something called the Chorleywood Process, used to maximize yield using lower-protein wheat in the industrial-scale bread making process; complications are bowel issues like IBS, probably due to the low-fiber, highly processed nature of the product. However as far as I can tell that is used only in the UK, I have not found any reference to it being used in N America.

Some people do well on bread, some people do badly. It seems to be a genetic thing.

Another problem is that store bread is not real bread. Real bread only has four ingredients: salt, flour, water, yeast. Most store bread has got all sorts of other gunk in it. It's junk bread. It's not real food if it has more than those 4 ingredients. It's not surprising to me that store/junk bread can make people sick.

Personally, I seem to be genetically intolerant of starch in general, and sugar in particular. I generally avoid bread, but on occasion when I do get bread, I buy the sugar free varieties, like rye bread.

Bread is good for you. The key is to make your own bread from flour that you know is pure. Most flour has enrichments added, such as iron and Vitamin B12. Yes, we need these items, but the amounts they put in flour, and the forms they put them in, inflame the gut, cause celiac response, and also make us eat more than we normally would.

Since I perfected my Viking rye bread, people tell me it is delicious, but after one or two thick slices, they are full. They are satiated. Same thing happens to me. Delicious bread, but I am full after eating just a little.

For more information on how diabetes and obesity correlate with all the "enrichments" they started putting on the flour, read Richard Nikoley's blog. After reading the research, I now grind my own flour and make my own bread to be safe. In Canada at least, "whole wheat" flour isn't supposed to have any additives. I think it is different in the USA.

Thomas: real bread from traditional cultures will have extra ingredients, such as herbs, spices, and seeds like fennel, carraway, poppy, and sesame. What they didn't add to their bread was rust shavings and other ingredients that farmers used to force their cattle to fatten up (like the B vitamins)

As a person who eats almost no grain and has given up on bread ( I just don't like it anymore) I will say that the "muh gluten is bad" schtick sounds like plain bollocks. Wasnt it that celiacs make up about 5% or less of the total human population?

I remember hanging out with the german equivalent of the whole foods faggots one time and they were talking about how this food is bad,avocado so good blah blah.
Of course Gluten was the big bad monster,which made me honestly ask "Can you tell me what exactly is this gluten thing?". Cue in crickets . As soon as I had an opportunity to get online I searched it on the web and the next time I saw the bio faggots I asked them this time if Gluten was a natural part of the grain, again they couldnt answer.

It has been said many times in the foums here, when it comes to what diet works better for whatever reason or purpose:
It boils down to a very idnvidual level,the best you can do -repeating what has been posted many times here again- is to experiment with works better for you, it can help to research about your own ancestry and figure out what they ate and from what they ate what gave the optimal results.
For example,genetic configurations that are non european (I do include baltics and slavs in this definition of european) tend to not tolerate alcohol and fermented products so well as predominantly european ones were these types of substances have been a common staple throughout the centuries.

Bread's fine. It's all about how much you're eating though. If your'e 150 pounds and eating 4000 calories of bread all day but you're a desk jockey then you're gonna get fat. If you're that same weight but you're a professional swimmer then you need the carbs. I try not to think so much in terms of good and bad foods, but instead in when I need to be eating what.

High fiber carbs? Eat that hours before exercising. Not lifting that day? Reduce carbs and up fats. Blah blah blah blah.

Once a week is OK.

As Roberto and others have mentioned, it's best to go on a low-carb nothing processed Paleo diet.

the modern "quick-yeast" bread based on modern wheat should not be consumed other than very sparringly.

other than that, test it out for yourself.

personally, i like "modern" bread [as per above], but eat it only occasionally.

I'm Italian, I guess we eat bread most in the world.

I only cut bread and coca-cola from my life, I lost 8 kg in 3 months.
