Too much cardio?

Too much cardio?

I have done fitness work all my life (41 years old) and train almost daily usually doing 45 mins of hardish cardio plus 45 minutes of weights using split body parts.

I am now thinking of moving to one day cardio one day weights, as am feeling a bit drained with the current routine both mentally and physically.

anybody else alternate and what are the pros and cons?

It'll work. Or you could try and reduce volume a bit on the cardio end. Or just do cardio every other workout, or whatever. Or just reduce the intensity of the cardio. I prefer a walk to a run...

Whatever causes a reduction in work load

What are you trying to accomplish? Lose fat, gain muscle, maintain, etc.

Just an idea:

Do both in one day but divide the weight work out
For example: One day work in your upper body and do the same amount of cardio afterwards, the following day work weights on the lower body followed -again- by cardio*

*Cardio is always better done after anaerobic exercise I understand?

Note:
In my own personal case, Cardio is a great way of relieving tension, but I probably over do it

El Gostro..that is what I do now but i think 45 to 60 mins hard cardio everyday may be doing more harm than good.

Ow.
MAybe turn down the cardio between 20 and 10 min?

Otherwise I guess your idea of alternating days of weight and cardio is sound

45 intense minutes of cardio is probably overkill. I'd feel burned out too.

I do 30-45 minutes of heavy lifting and run my dog two miles.
