How do people react to Mexican Spanish or other non-Castilian varieties of Spanish? I don't think I could ever talk with a lisp, even if it got me tons of pussy.

@Malone checked out that link and was rather surprised that a 3 bedroom penthouse would go for 600 Euro. https://www.idealista.com/en/inmueble/35697391/

A lot of Spanish look down on Latin American accents...the only exception is Argentinian I believe. But a lot of people here make bad comments about latin american accents...much in the same way British people do about US accents. Europeans sometimes just can't help it with the misguided snobbery.

Oh be careful with that cheap penthouse -- it is a good price but that neighborhood is crap. It's not really dangerous or anything, but definitely poor and industrial feel to it and sometimes crime.

Ya, not bad. But you can do better. Depends on your budget really.

Timely thread.

I'm at the airport headed there right now to spend the next month.

Was also there for a month in 2016.

I agree with the consensus, it's a great under the radar city. Easily one of the top 5 cities that I have ever visited.

It's pouring rain and chilly this week...but that's good. That means that after this week, it's back to sunny again for several months and comfortable temperatures. Valencians always say: "here the cold lasts 2 weeks".

Any updates on Valencia?

Las Fallas stories,etc.

How is everyone settling in there?

Falllas were over in the 19th.

If its your first time and you'e not working in the city or living near a casal fallera then it's quite something to behold : the effigies are fantastic, tons of drunk non -locals and foreigners moving around and I imagine pickings must be fairly easy.

If you're a resident who isnt a "fallero",its a fucking nightmare . The entire city becomes impossible to circulate in with a vehicle and even as a pedestrian in the zentrum you risk becoming part of moving human sardine cans whereas movement this year has been further reduced by excessively abundant food posts and trucks.
Plus you will need earplugs because the bloody firecrackers are going to start at 8 AM and won't quiet down at least until 4 (I heard them even at 6 or 7 sometimes).
If you have a dog that is scared by loud noises, you're in for quite a ride, mine is still afraid of being outside now.

As the valentians say here: those who are not falleros and who can afford it, take their leave of the city until it's over.

How is Valencia in summer? Is it really hot like Sevilla?

In August it'll hit 40C, which can be a bit hot if you're not used to it. I love it, personally.

At least Valencia has the coast right there unlike Sevilla. 40C with no coast has got to be a nightmare. The only place I can think of that hot without a coast is Vegas and they have pool parties everyday to beat the heat.

What about in June? Does it really go to 40's in June?

Well, I got a winter tan in Valencia so I imagine after June this year I'll be either mahogany or Jet colored...

Today in Valencia it is 17 degrees and sunny. Great weather. I am still sweating as I walk around the city. The sun is strong here, I am getting a sun burn. 40 degrees would be miserable.

Yes, 17 would be great weather.

But if Valencia also gets around 40 in June, I dont think I should come. I hate too hot weather. It gets too sticky, I can't walk around the city, you need water every other 5 minutes. Not good at all.

Decided to go to Valencia and then off to Mallorca. Since I think there are ferries from Valencia to Mallorca. How long does ferry take from Valencia to Mallorca? Does anyone know?

Everybody said, South Spain (Sevila, Malaga, Marbella) get up to 40 degrees during June. I can't really take that much heat. Will go there in late-September.

Absolutely. Fallas are a nightmare for those of us who live here. Luckily I escaped Fallas, as do sane people.

Valencia in the Summer? EVERYBODY here talks about how humid it is but seriously, after living in places like NYC or Miami, the humidity here is a joke in comparison. I have NEVER felt the need to put on air conditioning in Valencia (unlike Miami or other cities where that would be a death wish in Summer). There is always a cool (almost chilly wind I would say) blowing throughout the Summer and at night temperatures go down to 18ºC (around 68º F). VERY RARELY do you get nights above those temperatures....unlike NYC or Madrid where it is not uncommon to get minimums as hot as 25ºC+ or more!

Wish I had been so lucky, but then again it was my first time and I needed to evaluate if my biz benefited from it or not...

I had no luck finding flight to Valencia directly.

If I land in Madrid, is there any train or bus to Valencia from Madrid? Is it too far?

Google map shows it's 350 km. Shouldn't be that bad.

Plenty of trains(renfe is the national train overcompany) and buses (alsa is the national company )
There's also ridesharing (blablacar and amovens are the biggest here) but you normally get almost the same price you'd pay for a train or a bus without the comfort...

Yeah the train is your best option, not really expensive - I took it this time last year, €45 and less than 2 hours.

I loved Valencia even though it was a super short trip of 2 nights. The food was amazing, first meal there was the best paella I've ever had. Beautiful weather, architecture and women - there's a lot to like. Ended up in the Tossal? Square area both nights but was my first solo trip and first time I've ever been out to bars solo so didn't have any luck.

What areas are you guys staying in? I was pretty much in Plaza de la Reina so right in the centre of old town. Was a good spot, close to everywhere but the streets are so busy around there with tourists it was a bit much sometimes. Lots of noise too, especially the constant church bells.

I'll definitely return at some point for a longer stay, but probably abit further out the way.

Thanks a lot. I just booked my flight to Valencia.

But if I visit Valencia, I see that Mallorca is near by, is there a ferry from Valencia to Mallorca?

I spent a few weeks just before Fallas and the weather was awesome. A friend who lives there said the winter was awful this year, lots of cloud and rain. She also said to get the hell out of Valencia during fallas, which I did, partly due to accommodation prices at insane levels.

Valencia is a nice city with awesome beaches, but I find it a little small town after a while. I much prefer Barcelona.

One thing I noticed about the locals is how loud they are. They seem to shout at each other, even when having a coffee in a relaxed cafe. Really got to me that I was close to wearing ear plugs at one point as I could not concentrate on my work!
