Gym vs Another aspect of Lifestyle - give up gym time to focus on somethin else?

Been going at it since I was a teen training for sports and I have no regrets staying with it as long as I have (about 4-5x per week). I feel healthy and strong like I'm still 18-21. You stop lifting and your body will start aging much quicker. If you half ass your training don't expect better than half ass results. If you're only interested in the appearance benefits and not the health benefits of exercise do research into anabolic compounds to see if you would be a candidate for a prescription.

I think gym is not the purpose of life. I absolutely hate lifting. But I have to do that. I hit the gym because it keeps me healthy and being healthy gives me a better experience of life.
Plus, I met same chauvinistic misogynist men like myself in the gym. This is the place I can talk to like minded people. However, I don't do the childish gym talk. "Who's bigger?", "How much do you lift?"
You also can find many hobbies in life. Depends on what you like to do.

In terms of your attractiveness to women, I cannot think of another better use of time than hitting the gym. I really can't. A good physique is so powerful. What makes a man attractive? What would be the top three? I'd guess the top there would be: personality, status and looks. Looks are very powerful, and I think you can maintain a nice physique with 3 sessions a week. You just need that fit look, not bodybuilder. You don't need to be huge, just muscular and fit. In order to get there, you have to lift a lot, but once you get the physique, maintenance requires less lifting than what it took to get there. Maintenance is just a matter of keeping the muscles stimulated enough that they have a reason to stay where they are. You can raise protein synthesis, and it won't return to baseline for 48 hours. If you calculate that out over the week, you can go to the gym 3x a week and maintain your physique.

So if you are already muscular, stop trying to get BIGGER, and just maintain your physique instead. You can save some time, and you still have the benefits of a good physique. You might even get away with 2x a week for stretches of time if you want even more time.

Maintenance periods are a nice psychological rest too. There's a huge mistake in stopping going when maintenance requires very little time. I think many guys would be surprised with how little they can get away with for maintenance.

I would like to close off this thread with what I've done to reconcile my need for gym time with everything else.

I gave up coffee completely around the last week of Jan. I still get cravings for it, and am tempted especially when I haven't had enough sleep, but on the whole, it's helped me tons. I now am able to sleep at a reasonable time and wake up refreshed at 7AM every day. This gives me enough time to hit the gym before work 4-5 days a week or on the weekend.

Side story: this is because my LTR is in a different city, and I can finally do things as I want to. She would always give me shit about stuff like this, or demotivate me by saying that I could never do it, or say that buying something to exercise with at home was useless because I would never use it anyway.

It's really refreshing to hit the gym early morning, get the workout done and sail in to work on that post-workout high.

Aaah, so this was the Problem.

Glad to hear you've sorted this out.
