I tend to agree, but there is an x factor in the form of one protected group running afoul of another protected group.

Case in point: If gays want to do their thing (ie public buttfucking) in more "diverse" neighborhoods full of Muslims or Sikhs, etc. it won't go over and they won't have anyone to listen to their complaints.

I have a friend from grad school days, long time ago, who got arrested for this. Basically a dumpy, unattractive guy and when a guy who was way out of his league approached him in a park, my friend took the bait. He was arrested and charged but I don't remember if he got community service or just had to pay a fine or something. Depending on the jurisdiction, there are rules about whether the cop can make the first move or not, just like with undercover prostitution vice squad or drugs. They want to avoid accusations of entrapment.

I also have a family member who got a warning for walking late at night in a known cruising area. Your chances of wandering into one of these areas by accident is pretty low.

These guys do it because they get off on the danger or seediness of it, not because they don't have hookup apps or need to be in the closet. But the ones who deserve the most criticism are their defenders, the activists here. With this and transgender bathrooms for kids and so on, they'll be winning over the general public any day now. As they say, don't interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake.

Reminds me of what happened in Montreal last year. A well-known radio/tv host got caught rubbing one out in a public park that was apparently pretty popular for such type of activites.

Who gets to do what in a public park?

That's the question being asked in the neighbourhood around Toronto's Marie Curtis Park, after a recent police sting operation that cracked down on people having sex in the park.

Project Marie was a six-week operation by Toronto Police that used plainclothes officers to find people soliciting sex. Police filed 89 charges – only one of which was criminal in nature -- against 72 people, the vast majority of whom were men.

While some neighbours have balked at the fact that men are cruising for sex in the park, Jen Roberton thinks that if a city's public parks are to be truly for all members of the public, then cities have to design their parks for all users — including the men who have sex with men (MSM).

Roberton points to Amsterdam's Vondelpark as an example.

Since 2008, public sex has been allowed in the park as long as patrons do not litter, do not engage in sexual activities near the playground, and limit public sex to evenings.

She says the municipal government acted to protect all members of the local community, including gay men who were being targeted by "queer-bashers."

Heterosexual couples do have sex in parks as well, but more often than not, they're asked to move along. I would be very surprised if this amount of costly undercover policing was put into a sting operation against heterosexuals. This seems very much a targeting of gay men having sex.
