How I make Aeropress coffee (dedicated to Lothario)

This summer I was in Cleveland with Lothario and Gmac for the Republican National Convention. Lothario brought his Aeropress coffee unit. I had seen it in the hipster coffee shops in my town but never tried it. The cups of coffee he made were quite good (for a home brew) so I bought a unit myself. Since then, I've been using it every day, and hardly go to coffee shops anymore.

While I would argue that espresso gives a better overall experience, there is too few sips to enjoy. It always leaves me wanting more. The coffee from Aeropress gives more satisfaction, especially on those days when you want to enjoy a steamy beverage.

So this video is dedicated to Lothario:

Niceeeeee.....

For me there are only two ways to drink coffee: (1) French press, and letting those grinds steep for a couple minutes, or (2) Arabic coffee boiled in the ibriq or rakwa, and with cardamom or rose water added.

But to each his own.

I'm a French press man too. I like my coffee on the mild side, preferably made and served by a sexy girl.

PM me for accommodation options in Bangkok.

A +3 for the French press, but I would like to try the Aeropress.

I'm a big fan of the "Martha Stewart Living" direction of some of Roosh's new videos. Not being sarcastic.

I am skeptical of any coffee making machine involving plastic parts. The french press is just glass and metal coming in contact with the hot water and coffee.

I also like to make Turkish coffee, but haven't done it in a while. I once dated a Persian girl who gave me Turkish coffee directly from Iran. It was golden in color, not brown. Once I got a chance to roast some beans and I just roasted them in a pan until golden brown. Grind it into the finest powder possible, add water and sugar in a pan and heat to a boil, and viola! Turkish coffee. It needs a lot of sugar though.

Then you'll probably be quite the fan of the Bialetti Moka pot, it's mostly aluminium, although some steel models exist.

It's been my daily brew for about 7 years now.

I don't know if I'll be considered a caveman for liking it round here, you guys sound advanced and technical.

Watch that video is like a moment of zen with need the make cup of coffee afterwards.

The aeropress is the only way for me to make a good cup of coffee at home, since my family use instant coffee. One of the popular alternative ways to make coffee in the aeropress is to turn it upside. Place the plunger on the table top and attach the cylinder, put the grind and water in, cap it, and flip it on to the cup. I let my brew sit for a minute or two before pressing it.

Love the aeropress. I've had mine for years now and ever since have had only a handful of better cups than what it gives me at home.

The 90 deg. C is key. Using straight boiling water (as is used in an automatic drip or percolator type setup) leaves your coffee tasting flat.

Also I like to double up on the filters. I find it prevents premature leakage of the coffee into the cup before you press and also allows a little more pressure to build up during the press -- and you wind up with a little frothy crema like a good cup of espresso.

I do need to pick up a mill grinder like in the video, been using a garbage electric blade grinder for a while now.

Great suggestion, I'll try it.

Problem with a Moka pot (and to a lesser extent espresso) is that there is way too much sediment leftover. It accumulates in my teeth quickly.

Aeropress is super nice for making hot coffee, it's all the rage with the hipsters in the Bay Area. I think I'm going to get one to save costs on buying coffee every day. The only downfall for me is it doesn't really work if you want to make a batch of Cold Brew Coffee, since you need to let the coffee steep in a bunch of water for up to 24+ hours and the Aeropress has a small volume.

In any case though, great video, i like how there isn't any talking and just action.

For me it is instant coffee (Nescafe), no need for expensive machine...

Instant coffee is an ugly and sinful thing. Like banging a 3 every day because she'll put out easily and reliably.

These are pretty good for day to day use. I experimented with cold filtering one whereby you put it in a glass of water and leave it in the fridge overnight, then heat it up in the microwave the next day or just drink it cold. It actually tasted really good.

When summer sets in I'll probably use a pitcher and some cheese cloth to brew two litres of the stuff a day.

You're technically right in that there is no "need", though instant coffee is not drinkable without sugar, which I don't like putting in coffee.

Alternatively, you can try the inverted Aeropress method. That's how I make mine.

Nice. What kind of beans are you using? Lets make coffee manly again. Aeropress/porlex grinder setup is the best portable coffee maker of all time.

Cosign on instant coffee as undrinkable. I do keep a jar of Nescafé crystals on my counter, but for emergencies only (e.g. Ran out of beans or no time to grind and brew) and in those cases I have to throw a spoonful in the back of my mouth and immediately chase it with water so my taste buds don't have time to register what just happened.

Not to derail the thread but since we're on the subject, I have tried the Starbucks brand instant (that come in the elongated single serve packets) in the past and it's actually not bad; or at least, pretty close to a shitty cup of drip brew. The difference between theirs and standard instant coffee is that they mix dehydrated crystals with finely pulverized whole beans. I'd actually buy those and drink those if I didn't have an aversion to giving my money to SBUX.

Anyone know of a similar product that incorporates pulverized beans and costs a non-retard strength retail price, not produced by Shartbutts?

Now I want a cup of coffee.

Another great cup of coffee with "wow" factor for any women who spend the night is the vacuum pot. I enjoy restoring vintage US made appliances but there are still many 50+ year old units that run perfectly as is. Some models use a fine screen so no filters are necessary, and the coffee tastes great and strong without getting bitter. Glass versions are more common these days but aren't self-heating.

Vid of the action

Also use a vintage burr grinder like this one, quick and consistent ground size.

^Believe it was Gevalia instant coffee packets I was getting years ago, recall them being decent as well but taste and memory may be deceiving.

Well if you ever reach a point where you're curious about trying something different, see if you can find some locally roasted beans wherever you're at in the world that has a roast date printed on the bag of beans. Preferably roasted within 2 weeks of said date. Then note any differences in flavor you may find.
