Kansas - Data Sheet from recent trip

Data Sheet for Dodge City, Kansas (fall '16)
October 14th-October 20th

Prior to trip: Primary motivation is to get away from it all and go a little more in depth about the American heartland. Got advice on RVF, booked a motel using booking.com in Goodland, KS for Friday and Dodge City, KS for Saturday the 15th. Have the option to cancel within 24 hours. Packed lots of big water bottles, some warm clothes despite the sunny forecast. Wanted to see the Boot Hill Museum where they have the replica of the Wild West Front Street which was used as a set for many Western films. They even have mock shoot outs among cowboys there on weekends, which is why I wanted it to be there on Saturday. And wanted to see North America’s largest painting in Goodland (which is on the border of Kansas and Colorado). Also, perfect time to listen to my whole classic composers CD collection – which I built up as a teenager but never go around to before. I have a 2002 Suzuki SUV with about a 24 miles per gallon fuel efficiency.

Conditions: Need to return to Denver, Colorado by Thursday, October 20th for an afternoon training session so have 7 days for the trip.

Budget: $600

Friday, October 14th:

Finished my Skype lessons by 12PM. Set off after having some lunch at 1PM to beat the Friday afternoon Denver traffic jam. No delays, just the open road and open plains. Pass town of Limon.

-Listen to Stephan Malenux Gene Wars on youtube while I have good WiFi, learn about the r(liberal rabbit gene) and the k (conservative-wolf gene) = my highest recommendations
(3 hour drive)
-Learn that Bach's music was used in the History of Rome lecture series by Gareth Fagan

Burlington, Colorado: Stopped to grab a bite at McDonald's, just got a quarter pounder and took off the top bread. $5.

-Saw nice Apache helicopter monument near the Veterans of Foreign Wars lodge on my way out of town

-on the border of Colorado and Kansas, the largest cow ranch that I have ever seen. Like New York for cows, would estimate a population of at least 100,000. The smell was something.

-Stop near the welcome to Kansas sign, it has a blue sign with a sunflower on it. A group of girls also stops by the Welcome to Kansas sign, would have asked them to take a photo of me, but all of them were 5s or below, not worth the effort.

-Lots of Wind Farms in Kansas, as far as the eye can see. Grain silos pretty regular as well.

Arrived in Goodland by 7PM. Sunset Inn - $49, check in, feels like there are only 3 guests at the hotel. Go to Main Street and see a completely Deserted Downtown. What impressed me where the Law Offices where you can only have a meeting by appointment. The movie theater is showing Magnificent 7, consider going but decide to check out downtown first.

Approach: Suddenly, see a blonde girl who is walking down the street away from me on the other side, in a very open short blouse and jeans. Cross the street, she is now about 5 meters away, I yell at her “Excuse me Miss, do you know where the giant Van Gogh painting?”

She stops and explains to me that I need to take Cherry street. I tell her how difficult it is to find my way around Kansas and she reassures me that it is not very far. I say thank you and she continues walking away from me towards some houses in the back. My conscience immediately begins gnawing for doing such a terrible and inconsistent approach. Consider going back to find the gal. But proceed to the Van Gogh painting.

-No 85 gas at local gas station near the giant grain silos.

Get to the Van Gogh painting, just as the girl instructed, it is well lit and about 5 meters tall, above on a pedestal. Very impressed that the town put itself on the map in such a way.

Drive back to main street and see the same girl walking in the opposite direction. I figure this must be fate. I need to try again, will ask her where a nice bar is. I drive a little ahead of her. Park the car, get out and walk in her direction. Unfortunately, she disappears, must have gone inside one of the downtown building. Look around for her, no luck – decided to go to a bar that I passed near a gas station.

-Eat at Craze Rs Bar, grab a steak and drink iced tea - $24
-No prospects in the bar despite being full of people, everyone middle aged, no music
-Liked shirt that a local old lady had that said “Workin' so hard to feed y'all” (people are really proud that they are the breadbasket of the country)
-Some funny signs like “Man without shirt – no service, woman without shirt – free beer” and “Wife escape service: for $5 the barman will make you an alibi”

Return to Hotel, bar is empty, just 2 dudes playing pool. Don’t order anything
-Really enjoy swimming in the pool alone as well as spending time in a sauna
-TV news keep talking about the Trump sex scandals, cannot listen to them anymore so I find Lord of the Rings to watch and fall asleep to it

Approaches: 1
Total Spent: $83
Remaining Budget: $517

Saturday, October 15th:

Fuel up at Conoco: ($27) get the 87 octane
-Lots of corn silos and oil jacks everywhere. Pass an art gallery but decide not to stop, want to make it to the museum as it closes at 5pm.

At Oakley, turn off I-70 onto a local high way. Three hours later, arrive in Dodge City, has nice silhouette of cowboys. Drive into downtown Boot hill museum:

-Relaxing cowboy music is playing
-Entry ticket: ($9)
-The Boot hill cemetery was a hill with some witty lines on the wooden planks that served as tombstones: “Poor John drank too much and loved too freely, now he lies here.” Was a very rough and unsentimental town.
-Liked the red pill attitude of the cowboys who lived there, Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp
-The saloon only had Budweiser and Coors (darn – no nineteenth century drinks) so I have a tall glass of Bud ($4). The piano man is very enthusiastic. Funny sign: “Don't shoot the piano man, he is trying his best.

-Souvenirs ($12)

Approach: Outside of museum, see a good looking blonde in a white dress and heels get out of her car walk into Applebee’s. Unfortunately, she is meeting her bf there once I follow her in.

I decide that I should treat myself for making it all the way out here, grab some brochures and find that there is a theater in town.

-Check in at Nendles Inn: their pool is closed. Total expense is $60.

-Depot Theater: Dinner and a Play ($55) Sherlock Holmes play – the Final Adventure. Grab some wine, for $5.

-Play seems to go on forever, it seems to be a combination of some previous Sherlock Holmes stories, it is about the Prince of Bohemia hiring Sherlock to prevent his former gf from blackmailing him in time for his wedding. Like the actor who plays Holmes, middle aged bald man, very alpha. The Prince of Bohemia looks like a Turkish guy. Almost fall asleep as plot is needlessly complicated.

-See the same guy from the saloon who played on the piano, he now has his face painted white and looks like death. He wavers to me, apparently, he is from Arkansas and works two jobs to make rent. He invites me to a haunted house by the theater, I accept as I see two hot Hispanic chicks there.

Approach: Haunted house ($10), two hot Hispanic chicks. But one is with her bf and the other is his sister, of which the Mexican teen is very protective of. They speak Spanish with each other. Cute house, liked the revolving door with a werewolf inside.

-Decide to give the casino a try as Sunday will likely be much slower

Boot Hill Casino. Upfront see a stylish young Asian guy and a cute Asian chick, really dolled up in short skirt and high heels. They are playing Blackjack. Wonder if they are together. The guy has a ridiculous amount of chips, must be thousands. Perhaps he is there with his uncle as an older Asian man is not too far away. While debating whether to approach or not, get some free coffee and walk around the casino, lots of painting of the longhorn cattle drive. Spend $8) on slot machines while approaching girls. Watch the Blue Jay lose to the Cleveland Indians. Very crowded the craps table and all the blackjack tables. No one at the poker table, surprisingly.

Approach: See a very cute brunette with a baseball hat, playing one of the slot machines. She has her feet in jeans up on the actual machine. I sit near her at the machine next to me, it is something like the Bedazzled game that I do not know how to play.

Me: Excuse me Miss, how do you play this game?

Her: I don’t know

Me: It is just so hard to find good paying slot machines around here, does it pay well?

Her: Have no idea. (she is still playing her game.)
Me: I don’t usually play them, where I am from, usually play blackjack. Do you know if there are any other casinos where I can play

Her: Don’t know, not from around here. (She continues playing the game, I play a couple times and walk away)

Return to blackjack table. The Asian guy surprisingly seems to be upset as he lost many of his chips. The girl says something to him and walk to where the Cash exchange place is. Decide to approach her after she buys some chips. Wait 20 minutes.

Approach: The Asian girl begins to walk around, looking for a slot machine. She finally sits down at one and I come and sit near her. Ask her if machine pays well, she says she with a heavy accent that does not know as it is her first time playing. I ask her if she knows how to play and in her accented voice she apologizes for not knowing English very well. Then I see the Asian guy looking for her and decided to back off. I need to practice my casino Game for the future.

-Look around, even though the casino is clearly the center of social life here, no more prospects
-Leave Casino at 1AM in the morning

-Will need to go easy on the spending tomorrow, almost half of my budget gone in 2 days, will certainly not book lodging for a while
-Watch CNN documentary about Trump and then fall asleep to the Clinton documentary

Approaches: 4
Total Spent: $185
Remaining Budget: $329

Sunday, October 16th:

-Town seems deserted, but every church parking lot is completely full, even entertain the idea of going to a sermon, but I would not want to walk in late
-Stop to walk around a millet field

Santa Fe Museum: closed for private event, walk around. The ranger there apologized.

Fort Larned: free museum, but near the entrance are two girls, one cute and one with piercings. The one who is a cute brunette is busy reading while the girl with piercing approaches me and tells me that their KSU University is doing a study about museum traffic and ask me to please wear a GPS armband so they can track my movements. See the Officers Quarters and the Barracks and refill my water at the visitor’s center. The ranger there recommends me a good restaurant called “Gellas.”

Approach – cute girl from KSU who takes photo of me in a carriage. She does, we begin talking, I ask her what her major was. It is National Park Studies. Ask her how long does she have to be here, she says till 2PM and then a University van will pick them up. Unfortunately, one of her classmates comes by and tells her that it is time to return, there are about 10 of these KSU students in their blue shirts doing “research”

-Take the local highway up north, back to I-70 and pull into the town of Hays. Ejoy a nice lunch at a place called “Gellas” - get a fried steak and iced tea ($19). Take the breading off the top. See a really cute girl (8) in a white dress on a date with a hippie looking guy who does not look happy. Most restaurants and businesses are closed on Sunday. Watch some football, the place is industrial and a little preppy looking, something you would often find in Denver. There is an election going on for “best local beer.”

-Decide not to pay for lodging, Watch immortal “Beloved” about Beethoven (found out from Composer’s CD), he was Alpha at times and Beta at others
-Want to enjoy the country side more and make it to the Flintlock Mountains (about 250 miles east from me)
-Perhaps KSU could be a good place for pickup if I find the time to make it there.
Approaches: 1
Total Spent: $19
Remaining Budget: $310

Monday, October 17th:

-Charge my phone and see that I have unexpected work – translation for student from Russia. Stop by in a coffee shop in Hays that fortunately the coffee shop has Wi-Fi. End up spending $13 on coffee during the day.

-Buy 4 bags of celery to munch on throughout the day ($12) On a bit of a weight loss plan

-Sleep in an RV park without paying for it

Total Spent: $25
Remaining Budget: $285

Tuesday, October 18th:

-Fuel up at Conoco - ($34)
Worked in SBUX to save money as I have a gift card there ($12) worked 4 hours on the translation, sitting in front of computer. The coffee shop remains empty throughout the day, only customer.
-Have a Bought a lot of celery to munch on in the local store ($8).
-Really want to change clothes and take a shower, so after I finish all the translating, I google and find a fitness center.
-Go to fitness Center and was there. ($5 for fitness center). Change clothes. Sleep on the Road. Think after all the time in front of computer, want to go for a hike in my remaining time. The Flintlock mountains that RVF recommended – should be a good destination.
Total Spent: $59
Remaining Budget: $226

Wednesday, October 19th:

Unfortunately, do not have the chance to go to Flintlock as I likely would not make it back to Denver by Thursday Afternoon. Begin to Drive back to Colorado on I-70. See the beautiful Van Gogh painting near the side of the road as I pass Goodland. Big dust storm on the border between Colorado and Kansas. The sun in my eyes as I am driving West, gets on my nerves.

Fuel in Bennett, Colorado at a Conoco: ($19) so I can drive at night. Eat some popcorn ($2), fried chicken ($8) and get a coffee refill ($1)
Total Spent: $29
Remaining Budget: $197

Returned at 3AM on Thursday – October 20th

Conclusion: Truly enjoyed the quiet beauty and the slower paced life in Kansas. Wish I explored the Eastern part of it but could not because of the unexpected urgent work. Nice break from traffic jams and not being able to find parking. Sitting here at another Colorado mall, writing about my experiences and wondering how long it will take me to find my car. Wish I had made it to the Flintlock hills for a good hike to clear my head, will certainly return when I have more free time for some deep immersion. Liked the fact that despite it being rural and depopulated, even small towns have their share of cute girls. However, the casinos are densely packed and would probably be a good source for prospects though I only had 2 approaches on Saturday. Perhaps going to church on Sunday is also not a bad idea.

I fucking hate that backward state, but the level of talent there is so high it makes me wanna cry sometimes. Too bad you didn't have enough time, but good effort. You need a bigger city if you wanna do MidWest game, but the college towns will suffice. A lot of KS is the backwoods imo.

It's easy living out there, but definitely not for everyone. I've linked your original thread in case anyone wants to take a look.

Thanks, appreciate it. Guessing Salina, Topeka and KC would have better game and more venues. But college towns would probably be the only ones with enough prospects for serious Game.

What did you mean by talent? Like Artistic? The actor who played Holmes in the Dodge City Depot Theater was great and the piano man at the Long Saloon (who doubled as death at the Haunted House) there was talented too.

I am sure there is talent, just far and few in between.

Kansas - Data Sheet from recent trip

I lived in Wichita for several years. In general, that town is absolutely terrible for dating, but great if you are already married and want to raise a family there. Nightlife isn't too great but I'll bet it's infinitely better than Dodge or Garden City for instance. People in Wichita, and probably most all of Kansas, tend to marry very young - and I mean young - all the best talent is married off with kids by 21-22 and definitely by 25. Past that it's single moms galore or hypersluts. I can only assume that cities like Dodge, Garden, etc are only worse. Keep in mind that Wichita is a college town. Property values and cost of living are also quite low over there. In terms of venues in Wichita, if you're looking for an SNL, I would recommend Club Rodeo as the only viable location. Basically a country themed dance club/bar with real bull riding in an arena off in one corner of the building. You can even sign a disclaimer and ride the bulls yourself. You may also get to see someone gored in real life, so when I say real bull riding, I mean real bull riding. Don't go on hip hop night as there is significantly less talent and stabbings are strangely common (no idea why, as crime is not too bad in Wichita). If you know your line dances, or just dancing like two-stepping, you will be quite successful there. The only decent bars are in downtown (called 'Old Town') and include Mort's, Brickyard, and Pumphouse. Running game at these places is quite challenging since the gender ratios are either terrible, or it's mostly couples or large groups with many men and few women. Trios of girls which are abundant in larger cities are virtually non-existent in these venues. However, if you want to grab a beer with some friends, these are great chill places to do so.

A town nearby Wichita, Hutchinson, is quite interesting. There is a large Mennonite (basically Amish) community there. You will often see these people (the girls wear old fashioned clothes like caps on their head and dresses) both in Hutchinson as well as Wichita. The girls very much appear like wife material, and a good friend of mine married one who was somewhat on the fringe of that community and I can attest that she indeed was wife material. These girls occasionally marry outside the community. If you make it your mission and have good social circle game, you can claim one of these as your own. But be careful, many non-Mennonite girls from Hutchinson who are unmarried past 25 are single moms, hypersluts, and also hardcore drug users in some cases.

Many younger people who end up 'stuck' living in Wichita tend to go Kansas City regularly (like every weekend) to get away. I never did this, but based on what friends told me the nightlife and selection of talent was significantly better than Wichita, but not as good as let's say Chicago or Dallas. From what I'm seeing, it's just a larger version of Wichita.

One last thing - the weather totally sucks in Kansas. Very high winds all year long, so it's a blast furnace in the summer, and people from up north have complained that the cold is worse in Kansas due to the wind and very dry conditions. Just something to keep in mind.
